Wallacian Campaign Session #42

• The session opened with the party gathered in the parlor of the Dendrar house, along with Mirna Dendrar and Constable Clarkson. Leanna's familiar cat was lounging on the roof. Mirna's grandmother was resting on a bed in the northeast bedroom, just off the parlor.

• The party did not post a watch, even though one of the Haskills had escaped their assault on the estate. Only a last second warning from Leanna's familiar allowed the party to escape getting caught completely flat-footed.
• Two of the Haskills approached from the East, firing their short bows through the open windows. Two others approached from the West, across the small courtyard joining the house with the stable and workshop. They also initially attacked with their short bows.
• When the party was fully engaged with these assailants, "Black Bart" Haskill emerged from a second, unoccupied bedroom to the north of the parlor, from a room that had no other door. Catching Crow by surprise, Bart attacked him mercilessly.
• Fearing that Bart might seize Mirna as a hostage, Mary grabbed her and shoved her (perhaps more forcefully than she had intended) into the bedroom with her grandmother.
• While most of the rest of the party concentrated on the two attackers to the East, Rus stood alone against the two on the Western flank. He was hard-pressed, but healing by his comrades kept him in the fight as he slowly whittled down his foes.
• Crow was brought to Death's Door before he was able to retreat to the far end of the parlor, putting a couch between himself. Again, timely heal spells restored Crow to nearly full health, even as Bart closed the distance and resumed his attack.
• As Bart started to take damage from the party's attacks, he became partially incorporeal. This reduced the effect of the party's physical attacks, but the party quickly discovered that Bart still appeared to take full damage from their magical spells.
• One of Rus' opponents attempted to break off his melee combat with Rus, and close with another party member deeper in the room. However, as soon as he turned away, Rus struck him down.
• Knowing that iron manacles disrupted the Haskill mageborn powers, Mary attempted to clasp a set of shackles on Bart's ankles. However, the manacles passed right through Bart's incorporeal limbs.
• Although the Haskills were able to inflict a lot of damage on the party, the party's healing resources allowed them to outlast the Haskill attack. The party eventually subdued Bart, and killed his last remaining Haskill ally shortly after that. Once Bart was unconscious, Mary was able to affix iron manacles to both his ankles and wrists.
• Searching the defeated the Haskills, the party recovered enough coins for each party member to gain 5 gold pieces.
• From Bart, they also recovered a silver cigar case with three cigars remaining in it.  Crow took possession of the cigar case. 
• After discussing the situation with Mirna (who was not seriously injured by being thrown into the other room), the party decided to take grandmother Dendrar to Wilken's Mill and arrange for someone there to watch over her.
• Mirna ask that the party then escort her to Westport where she can present documents signed by her grandmother to the crown, enabling her to wrest control of the apothecary shop from her brother. Her testimony and that of the party could also result in criminal charges against her brother. Mirna promised a reward for this task, though she cannot give specifics until she learns how the shop's finances have fared until her brother's management.
• When Black Bart came to, the party questioned him.
• Bart did not provide any statements about working with Captain Tolk. Instead, he made vague statements about the Captain being too preoccupied with other things to be a hindrance with his family's affairs. As an example, he told the party that the Captain had just taken the majority of his troops into Smuggler's Fen in search of a recently discovered tomb that he intends to loot. The party surmised that this is the tomb they are discovered in their first adventure near Wilken's Mill.
• Black Bart recognized Mary from Suanne's description as being the one who asked about the locket Suanne had traded for with the smugglers. Bart then said that he knew when and where the next meeting with the smugglers was to take place, and offered to trade that information for his freedom. Despite from discussion with the party on this offer, thus far Bart has remained in his manacles.
• After being left alone for several minutes, the party discovered that Bart's wrist manacles were loose. Searching him more thoroughly, they discovered a set of lock picks, which the party then confiscated.
• The next morning, the party traveled to Wilken's Mill with Mirna and Bart, and met briefly with Dame Wilkendal. Dame Wilkendal agreed to keep grandmother Dendrar safe while the party travelled to Westport.
• As they left town, the party confirmed that the army camp just outside of town was now gone.
• Minor Ret-Con: We will begin the next session just after the party leaves Wilken's Mill with Black Bart and Mirna.
