Boktan

Boktan is a small outpost and research center controlled by the Qil'Soran Republic. It was the first known outreach of the Qil'Soran Republic beyond its normal borders.

Description

The Qil'Soran Empire refers to Boktan as a "great expedition to gather large amounts of resources from the ages before". However, this is not the case, it has become a prison outpost keeping large numbers of people to pay of their debts to society. Boktan is entirely run by members of the Qil'Soran militia, however several organizations including The Obsidian Forge and The Shade Cloaks have managed to infiltrate the village.   Despite its prison-like atmosphere, the outpost is designed to be a small village, with the majority of the riches being held within the Imperial Palace, including a large crystal called the Moonstriver. The Moonstriver creates an arcane ward around the outpost keeping it from being attacked and alerting the guard if anyone crosses into the village. The crystal is said to have originated in a ruin within the Slycol Desert and stems from a time before The Shatter, making the Moonstriver one of the oldest working arcane elements of Nonvyrox.   There is no formal inn or tavern within Boktan, so many homes around the Imperial Palace remain empty allowing visiting guests to have safe and assured accommodation during their visit. In the central pub, The Sun's Smile, there are constant nights of gambling, followed by the brewing of drunken fights.

Points of Interest

Hiradal's Laboratory

In the northern part of the outpost lies a small laboratory owned by the Arcanologist Hiradal Uvali. Many notable figures visit with the intention of discovering more about the artefacts that have been gathered throughout the world. Arcanologist Uvali are commonly considered the foremost expert on Shatter based artefacts and their usages.

Imperial Palace

In the center of Boktan is the Imperial Palace, a large building which is the official home of the empire appointed leader of Boktan. The palace is also home to several magicians who work closely with the General to produce accurate arcane maps in the Slycol Desert surrounding the ruins within and around Void's Death.

History

Boktan was constructed in 702 AR on behalf of the Qil'Soran Republic to scour the Slycol Desert for remains and ruins after The Shatter. Expedition crews who gather such relics or information are rewarded handsomely for their efforts. The many expeditions that return empty handed are not paid for their efforts, instead they are jeered for their failures and mocked for any optimism.   The Obsidian Forge and Shade Cloaks are both keen to gather information and relics for their own purposes. Whilst the Qil'Soran Republic has primary control of Boktan, a large number of spies and thieves have been placed in the outpost to gather relics, information, and support for their numerous respective organizations.

Map

In 746 AR, a map of Boktan was commissioned to allow for a better understanding of the population distribution of the village. Once to map was complete it was returned to QIl'Sora City where it remains in an archive to map the progress of the village. The village will be mapped again 15 years after the initial mapping.

Honestly sounds like quite a miserable place to live. Imagine being a prisoner living in the shadow of a palace.
