Dunmer/Dark Elves

A dark-skinned race of Mer native to the province of Morrowind.   Personality + Traits:
  • Strong, intelligent, quick, aloof, and reserved
  • Considered by some to be ill-fated
  • Keep mostly to themselves
  • Most natives of Morrowind harbor a bitter distrust and disdain for other races (consider themselves superior)
Physiology: Most Dunmer have red, glowing eyes. Their skin tones vary from greenish and gray (common) to light blue (rarer) Height similar to most human races (Taller than Bosmer, shorter than Altmer) Dunmer current form is a curse by Azura
  • They were originally Chimer
  • Curse is a result of the actions of the Tribunal - either using Kagrenac's Tools or murdering Nerevar
  Culture + Organization: There are 2 major cultural groups among the Dunmer:
  1. The Great Houses
  2. The Ashlanders
  Religion: Ancient Velothi:
  • Ancient Velothi acknowledged Boethiah, Mephala, and Azura as primary figures of worship
  • Ancestor worship was also a prominent feature
  • They acknowledged Sheogorath, Mehrunes Dagon, Malacath, and Molag Bal as "The House of Troubles" which were not to be worshipped and dealt with caution
  • Following the Tribunal 's apotheosis, the Great House Dunmer began to worship the Tribunal, with only House Dres openly still worshiping the Daedra.
Ashlanders:
  • Remained worshipers of Boethiah, Mephala, and Azura (caused many conflicts between the Temple and Ashlanders
  • They also believe in the prophecy of the Nerevarine that will save the Dunmer from outlanders
  • After the fall of the Tribunal and establishment of the New Temple, Deadra worship was restored among House Dunmer, and Ashlanders were regarded of guardians of the "true way"
The Temple:   1. Tribunal Period  
  • Dedicated to the worship of the 3 god-kings of Morrowind: the Tribunal
  • This was the dominant religion until after the Red Year (4E 5)
  • Azura, Boethiah, and Mephala were known as the "Anticipations" because they share the same aspects and spheres as each member of the Tribunal
  • The Temple also encouraged a pantheon of saints whose example should be followed in order to live a virtuous life
2. The New Temple
  • After the fall of the Tribunal, the Dissident Priests (formerly persecuted) rose to control the Temple
  • The Temple went back to worshiping Boethiah, Mephala, and Azura, called "The Reclamations"
  • The Tribunal were relegated to the status of saints withing the new pantheon
Language + Names: Dunmeri is the common language of the Dunmer
  • Descended from Aldmeri
  • Written using the Daedric alphabet
