It delights me that sometimes humanoids just band together and help eachother. Organisations such as the Vanguard are just prime examples of the good in people. How many people's life have not been improved by the protection given by them. — High Sage Syronikir
Before the Vanguard the people living in the remote areas of the world had to really either on poorly trained guards or adventurers for protection. Sometimes the
Archonic Order offered help but their presence had deminished the past centuries as more of these soldiers were used in the
Pavan Empire's wars.
Now these areas have once again some degree of safety thanks to the Vanguard, who are dedicated to the protection of people along the eastern part of Farlis. They are not bound to any country and were never involved in wars before the recent war of 1237 AE. If a
Feral Dragon or another monstrosity roams the lands, the Vanguard will be the first to answer.

Origin
The exact founding date of the Vanguard is a bit vague so it is only know that it was somewhere in the Middle Era between 400 and 700 AE. During this time the countries were mostly smaller in eastern Farlis and there were not enough armies to hold off the constant threats of Goblinoids, Mountain tribes or monstrosities. When the Vanguard was founded the people finally had a way of save living without having to rely on random adventurers or mercenaries.
At first they were a rather small group operating in current day
Terios but eventually the expanded further into Human controlled territories.
Growth
After a while they grew enough in size to become an army in their own right. Several forts were constructed in optimal locations for protecting neighbouring settlements. Their largest fort is situated at the
Endra Swamps hills since it close to major roads leading to
Varena and Eprus. Other forts constructed during this time can be found along the eastern coastlines or along major trade routes.
Although for most of its history the Vanguard had operated in Human territories they eventually expanded. Today they can even be found in Dwarven countries like
Carthen and even Elven countries such as Mervidel. Even in these countries they perform the same tasks.
Alliance-Covenant War
The neutral stance of the Vanguard changed during the Alliance-Covenant war that saw many Elven and Human countries get involved in a large scale conflict. During this war the Elven troops sacked Savi, a settlement close to their main fort. The loss of life was so great that the Vanguard decided to intervene and joined the war on the side of the Alliance. Since then Mervidel has removed any headquarters of the Vanguard from their country.
