Archonic Order

 

Few religious orders can claim the same amount of power as the Archonic Order. It is much more than a religious organisation, it is a military in its own right. But like their god or not it is undeniable that they have done good things in Farlis. Were it not for them perhaps many of the downtrodden would not have survived to this day.

  The Archonic Order is one of the most powerful factions in the world as it a direct extension of the Pavan Empire's military despite it being primarily a religious order. Everywhere where there are followers of Archonism the Order can be found. Because of this can easily operate outside the Pavan Empire, protecting the faithful and eradicating evil. Although in previous centuries other magic than Divine Magic was fiercly rejected by the Order, it has become at least somewhat accepted in current times.    

 

Origin

  After the fall of the Avaronian Empire the Pavans were mainly occupied with restoring the peace and bringing stability to both Pavanor and Farlis. The peace terms with the remainder of the Avaronian Empire stated that all conquered lands would be given to humans and enforced a ban on the Mackevism religion.

But as the resources of the Pavan allies were spread too thin already the chose to grant independence to these new regions. For the first time in a long time these lands were ruled by Humans instead of Elven overlords. The region that roughly corresponds with current Varena, howver, remained under control of the Archon Alliance. To ensure that the transition would go well an order was given to assemble a new force among the Archonic faithful. And so the Archonic Order was officially founded.

In the beginning the Order was just an extension of the Archonic Church and mainly dedicated itself to spreading Archonism. But they also helped to defend the people on the outskirts who could otherwise not be protected by any military. In addition to this they either converted Mackevist heretics or expelled them. Most of these task had to be performed in Farlis as it was a more frontier like region. Because of this the headquarters were placed in Tharis, close to most of the Orders operations.

 

Growth

  After the independence of Farlis territories the headquarters were moved and the focus once more shifted to Pavanor. The Order by then had taken up many casters of Divine Magic and started to support the militaries in that way. This all changed when Emperor Irasem officialy formed the Pavan Empire in 723 AE. The Empire's military was expanded during this time and the Archonic Order, who until then had supported other Archonic nations, joined the Empire's ranks. But the true reforms came from his heir Sanvielires.   Sanvielires was rather young during his early reign and was convinced by the Archonic church to oust many mages who had become too powerful in the government. All casters other than Divine Magic casters became frowned upon. This all resulted in a civil war which ended with most non-divine magic casters to leave the country.   To prevent any further civil wars the Emperor decided to consolidate his power by combining the church and his title. The Emperor himself became the leader of the Archonic church while the reformations of the Archonic Order merged the military and the church. Due to these changed the Order had became a group of professionally trained soldiers supported by Divine Magic casters.

The new leader of the Archonic Order got the name Irases, named after his father. Because the Order was so closely tied to his divine rule the Emperor was able to choose whoever he liked as the Irases, ensuring his loyality.    

 

   

 

Military

  In current times the Archonic Order forms a large portion of the military and is seens as its most elite force. But as the Pavan Empire grew it couldn't really on solely on the Order. Eventually new units were introduced to increase the ranks of the military. Nonetheless the Archonic Order still forms the core and the Irases has command over all.  

Relgion

  Even today the Archonic Order dedicates itself to spreading Archonism wherever it can. As Pavanor is already mostly converted these missions are often undertaken in other continents. For this purpose the Order has many outposts scattered around the world. Not every nation is keen to have them but many appreciate their presence as the Order serves as additional protection against all kinds of monstrosities and evil.   The Archonic Order's main enemies are Mackevists but as these heretics are not that common anymore they mostly deal with other issues. Their tasks can range from maintaining order in remote regions to defeating Goblinoid hordes. Whenever they can the Order also deals with any Undead or Chaos casters.
