Handerlith Wall
The Handerlith Wall is perhaps one of the most impresive feats left behind by the Avaronians. And unlike the Sanderlith Wall it has never been breached. But now that the chaos wielding Selefer are long gone, its purpose seems a bit lost.
Those who travel north to Mervidel are rewarded with remarkable sights, but none more striking than the Handerlith Wall, the longest wall ever built. In ancient times it was built to protect the Elven lands to the north against incursions of the now long gone Selefer. Its western end starts at the Eganamya Mountains at the cliff side of a large mountain. At the other end a mountain pass in the Doromir mountains forms the last part of the wall.
Despite its age it the Handerlith Wall is still in perfect working order and still patrolled by the Mervidel army. The central part of the wall is in the best condition as the wall there also functions as a line of defence for the city of Marelia behind it.

Avaronian Style
As the wall was already built in 2436 BF it of course was constructed in the Avaronian style relevant at the time. At that time the Avaronian Empire was not yet at its largest so most of the materials for its construction were taken from the Doromir Mountains and the current Mervidel region. This gives the outer wall a light gray colour due to the used materials.
The roofs are made from green coloured clay which most likely was gathered from nearby Lake Ereton. This is in contrast to the more recent style that rather uses a green glaze over the tiles. Since the wall had to be restored in several places, such as around the Marelia defence line, some parts of the wall use more modern roof tiles.
Towers and Forts
At regular intervals the wall is broken by towers. Most of these are rather small and just barely extend from the wall as their primary function is to allow archers or mages some additional protection. In the most important parts such as at the ends of the wall, the towers are about 50m higher than the wall. The wall itself on the other hand varies in height but is between 20 and 25 m depending on the location.
Along the wall there are about seven forts of which the Marelia fort is the largest and also houses a significant part of the Mervidel army. The other important forts are at the ends of the wall and also function as the homebase for patrols through the mountains or restocking the smaller guardposts. Besides them two other forts are still in use but the other two are ruined after centuries of neglect.
History
Construction
Nobody really knows when exactly the construction of the wall was started, only that it was finished to a useable degree by 2436 BF. It is possible that additions such as forts were constructed at a later date but this is not possible to verify from currently available historic sources. The reason for its construction, however, is a well known fact. The expansion of the Selefer into the area that is currenlty known as Mervidel, caused the displacement of the Mofae Elves. Soon it became clear that the Selefer would not stop their advance as they wanted to claim these territories rich in Falls. , which made them clash with the Avaronians who were seeking to do the same.
After a series of wars the Avaronians managed to claim the territory but at more difficulty than expected. To protect their newly aquired gains the Avaronians decided to build the wall at the most defensible place, between two mountain ranges. It would not take long for the wall to proof its usefulness as only several decades after its construction a new war started.
Avaronian Era
During the Avaronian Era the wall withstood several siege attempts by the Selefer and eventually fored the Selefer to redirect their armies to the western side of the mountains. This gave the Avaronians more time to respond to approaching armies. The succes of the Handerlith Wall eventually led to the construction of a second wall west of the Eganamya Mountains, the Sanderlith Wall. The construction of the second wall made it almost impossible for the Selefer to break through the southern Avaronian border until the Sanderlith Wall was destroyed by strong Chaos magic.
At the end of the Avaronian Era the wall again proofed its value, this time against the Humans of the Archon Alliance. Although severely outnumbered the Avaronian army managed to withstand the human army and foreced them to return south. Because of this the central regions of the Avaronian Empire were unscathed until the fall of the empire.
Progressive Era
In the centuries that followed the wall has not been the scene for any major battles as it was seen as impenetrable. However, during the last war between Humans and Elves, Mervidel wanted to send reinforcement through Marelia but were unexpectedly blocked by the Human forces. As it became clear that it was a lost battle the reinforcements retreated back to the safety of the wall but not without suffering heavy losses.
