Lokmorbol
Well, isn't that pretty.
Geography
A giant freshwater sea, contained by the continent of Urlandekai. There are six major islands and one peninsula, formed by volcanic activity long in the past. The lake is home to an odd algae, that forms long, semi transparent strands, that give the water a marbled look. It's quite beautiful in the summer. In the winter, the algae fades in color, taking much of the beauty with it.
Fauna & Flora
A multitude of fish. Most famous, and featuring on the Republic's Seal are the marble sharks. They've picked up on the lake's distinctive colors as an effective camouflage. They are the scourge of fishermen as they are smart enough to recognize nets. The sharks will then wait until the nets are full and being pulled up, then burst out of the water, cut the nets with their teeth, and enjoy the dazed bounty that's raining down on top of them. Some fishers consider this to a stroke of good luck. Afterall, the marble shark is called "the bull of the sea" for a reason. A pound of the delicious meat can go for as much as twenty clytars.
The islands that the Lochlan live on don't feature nearly as much wildlife diversity as the lake proper, but they are home to many smaller mammals, such as squirrels, rabbits, weasels, foxes, and wild goats. When the Lans moved in, they brought cattle and sheep along with them. Somebody's pet cats got loose on Teardrop, so now that island has an exploding feral cat population. Very few rats though, which the locals consider blessing enough to put up with the ever present smell that the cats produce.
Unique to the skies of Lokmorbol, is the rainbow gull. According to Lan mythic tradition, they are the descendents of the original inhabitants of the area, a race of bewitching cannibal women, who changed their shape to avoid being drowned when Arfeither flooded the region. Every color of the rainbow is present in their flocks. They put fireworks to shame with their beauty. The locals hate them. No one denies that the swarms are pretty, but their droppings frankly aren't. Adding to the irritation is their habit of swooping down on fields nearly ready for havest and helping themselves. A few enterprising "merchants" have made a quick clytar by selling them to foreigners as exotic pets. All sales are considered final, thanks for asking.
