Fall of Embrel and Desolation of Idiomaris
As part of Jayllin's Terror, Jayllin and a large contingent of Risian Cultists infiltrated the city of Embrel during its peace talks. When a large battle broke out between the Federated Union of Eastern Kalin and Impero Tharrisian attendees, Jayllin and her followers took their opportunity to strike. They attacked the center of the city directly, reportedly aided by some massive shadow demon. Despite suffering massive losses, Jayllin was able to kill Galan Dalari with an arrow to the heart, and then her and her followers nullified the magic holding the magical city of Embrel aloft.
What happened next was predictable. Embrel and its many smaller islands plummeted to the earth, slowly at first as residual magic slowed their descent, but then quickly. While some people in Embrel were evacuated by the various airships and forces near the city, it wasn't even a partial majority of the population.
Embrel proper impacted several miles outside of Domus Novus, while its various islands landed around the Idiomaris region. The destruction was unfathomable.
Domus Novus and Embrel ceased to exist in the same moment, and the initial blast is estimated to have killed hundreds of thousands of people nearly instantly. The event made High Elves an endangered people almost instantly. It also effectively ended Idiomaris as a Tharrisian Province; with much of its administration and people now falling under the domain of the neighboring province of Forelenium and the Imperial Senatus.
In the coming months and Seasons, massive relief efforts from across the continent rushed to Idiomaris to try help; led in large part by The Hopeful Return. While thousands were saved and the worst of the resulting fires contained, the destruction is still unfathomable. Official estimates put the total death toll, from initial impact to post-impact deaths from fire, disease, and other at around 1.2 Million; with that figure estimated to rise for decades as long-effect deaths are calculated.
