Dwarf

Bold and hardy, dwarves are often known as skilled warriors, miners, and workers of stone and metal. Though they stand well under 5 feet tall, dwarves are so broad and compact that they can weigh as much as a human standing nearly two feet taller. Their courage and endurance are also easily a match for any of the larger folk.   Dwarves can live to be more than 400 years old, so the oldest living dwarves often remember a very different world. This longevity grants them a perspective on the world that shorter-lived races such as humans and halflings lack.   Individual dwarves raised on "traditional Dwarven values" are determined and loyal, true to their word and decisive in action, sometimes to the point of stubbornness. Many dwarves have a strong sense of justice, and they are slow to forget wrongs they have suffered. Though like all individuals, those raised outside of their society may differ greatly.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Dwarves reproduce in a mammalian manner requiring a male and female member of the species. Biological male and female members of the species are sometimes hard to discern for the untrained eye, since both male and female members grow prodigious beards at a startlingly quick rate, and both sexes have similar levels of natural musculature. Dwarven women traveling or living outside of more Dwarf-centric societies are known to shave their beards frequently to "blend in" culturally, but this is not a hard and fast rule; especially amongst either the proud Dwarf, or the gender nonconforming Dwarf.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

In Kalin

Originally isolationist within their Dwarven holds as part of the Dwarven Confederacy, the Dwarves were pushed above ground as part of The Return at the end of the Second Age. Most now live in the lands of the Dwaav-Torva'Dro Abbanshi, or in Jarak but Dwarves found outside those places aren't an uncommon sight.

In Efaanu

Most Dwarves in Efaanu were/are part of one of the two realms. The former realm of An-éadóchas, or the current realm of Duhag Loran. While An-éadóchas is long dead or abandoned (it's unclear), the Dwarves of Duhag Loran mostly stick to their mountain home as they face discrimination in the mainland due to their resistance to The Realm.

In Wahar

It is not currently thought that Dwarves have a significant population in the western continent beyond traders and travelers, but it is hard to be sure.

In Archin

It is not currently thought that Dwarves have a significant population in the eastern continent beyond traders and travelers, but it is hard to be sure.
