The Ascension

Tales speak of a time before the deities, thousands of years ago. The people of that time lived similar lives of our own, and they went about their lives the same as ever. But soon a silence swept over the land, and soon it all began to fall apart. Sicknesses would spontaneously comes and go, people would either be stuck in a state of dying, or they would drop dead or come back to life. Portals and voids in existence would form in and out of existence- and otherworldly beasts would be born or created from thin air. And the sky became a blood red, split between the sun and the moons, with celestial bodies fading away over time. And as the stars and heavens disappeared from existance, so too did parts of the land, as well as life and people- leaving black voids in their place.   It was at this point an elderly man decided to put a stop to this. He resolved to create a spell to give him the power to alter time and space itself, so that he could save the world. He gathered what he felt was necessary for this task, and went off into the world to find the pieces he needed to create his solution. Months passed, and no one had heard from him after he had seemingly disappeared. Those who knew of his goal feared he had failed. But then, a sign was given. Suddenly, people found themselves dreaming simultaneously- whether they were conscious or not- of the man.   Meridis, as he was known, announced to the world that he had found a solution- and it had given him the power to fix the world. But he needed help- the task was too much for one person alone, and he needed more. So with this dream, he gave the instructions to follow the journey he took to where he had performed the ritual needed to achieve this power. This journey, he said, was to guarantee the dedication one had to ensure the survival and safety of the world and the universe itself. And once they had completed it, they would find his instructions for the ritual to become powerful enough to stop this apocalypse.   With this message, many resolved to accomplish this journey. Many tried- some for noble reasons, and some for selfish reasons- but the journey was treacherous and required risking life and limb. The remainder of the year had passed, and shortly into the new year, it was revealed that a total of 32 people had ascended into power. This was revealed en masse to the people, in a similar dream-like state that revealed the journey in the first place. Each person introduced their selves, revealing that they each took up a role to maintain a part or aspect of the universe, with 8 individuals taking up major roles, and the remaining people working under each of the eight to help with that aspect in the various ways it presented itself.   What was lost in the world was restored at the power of these individuals, and everything was righted. With no more people who were willing to seek out the power to alter the world and succeeding, the ascended hid away the secrets of their power to prevent abuse. This was left with a promise with a fail safe of this information being revealed once more should something terrible happen to them. And soon, many began to revere the ascended as their saviours and even their deities. The ascended eventually accepted the titles given to them by the people, and soon the became known universally as the deities of Nielea.

This tale is based on the ascension of the deities. They themselves are the proof that this took place- and many historical records exist of the times before and during the ascension. There is some speculation on the true events, as the tale has become more of a folktale in some ways, but it is agreed that it follows the general events that took place.

As it is a story of how the deities came to be, and how the saved the world. It is a story passed down for many generations, and it has been spread throughout Nielea to anyone and everyone who listens.

There have been variations on how the world had been falling apart, and many stories tell their own speculations on how the trial and journey occurred. Many cultures like making their own take of what dangers were faced based on things feared by or respected by their own people.
