Vyrm Spine

A once deadly plant now the greatest weapon of animal. On a world where everything seeks to thrive and grow, where any other living organism can be a way to become stronger. The Vyrm Spine once called Harvest Hunter, is a plant that shows this to the highest degree. As once this plant would kill entire areas of forest, jungles, farmerable land. it did not care for anything around it, then once it had it fill it would drawn in animals tempting them with great smells and a lushest flower, once a prey draws close a single fast moving stem would shoot out pouring the plants seedlings into them all ready fertilized. The animal would do what any animal does and flee, sending some of the seeds off it body as it runs spreading it around, once the animal dies to it would or any seed who roots grew into them the plant would begin the cycle again harvesting all the nutrients before sending it tricking another animal into spreading it young.   This nature of consuming all nutrients nearly lead to the downfall of the Pulcherrimum Hortus as the area could not support such a gluttonous plant. It was only due to the work of the Vyrm and their Shifter who were trapped in the area due to the water being the only one what could support their young, did the region survive and thrive. Though this was all before the great serpents learn of the actually culprit to the near death of their homeland. The first interaction between the two species started with how all begin with the Harvest Hunter a vyrm that was drawn in by it scent. The plant strikes how it always did attempting to lodge it young into them but unlike any other animal. The choices the shifter made to allow them to survive and restore the region to life prevented the death of the animal and more importantly brought a live Hunter right to the Shifters who very quickly determined this was the plant that lead to the depletion of the land.   Though most wished to go and hunt the Hunters, a few bring up that they could do something else. As they were ambush predators and this plant provided a way to get a second chance at killing their prey. If any animals escapes them then this plant could be used to strike at them and then it would be simple to follow and eat the body before the plant can take roots. The debates took many days with the vyrm now carrying the plant staying close by to be watched for any signs of growing ill. Upon the 13th day of deciding the Shifter agreed with the plan, they spreaded out searching everywhere for this plant and upon finding one having their tribes get infected carefully as to ensure the plants were in the right place. Once they were sure all of the Hunters were gathered they began their plan slowly weaving the plant into their tribes. turn this dangerous pariaste into a weapon.   At first it was as the first group suggested, the flower thrived upon it new home. The body of a vyrm much better suited for it then the ground as it can move providing more sunlight or shade as needed, but more importantly it was given second and third chances at spreading it seed as it host wouldn't be killed by it feeded. Once a new generation of shifter were born to the vyrm true changes began to happen, the flower stopped attempting to seed the animals it killed instead with the new shifter understanding of it. the Spine instead became a way to spread a poison into the host, slowing them down and letting the predator to stay in place. It seed now growing within the young vyrm naturally as it life was now that of the vyrms but no group of this society was happy with just this. The great Vyrm spine was just beginning it journey to become the ultimate weapon of the race. First the stem was modified so that it could take different shapes depending on the host, some would make nets to catch fish or birds as they lay on the muddied earth of their home. Other would increase the range of it by making part of the stem become a small harpoon-like object. Though over the untold years the plant finally reached it true form the spine itself was but a bud meant to carry around a liquid soup of nutrients and cells all ready to activate at a moment notice, exploding to life into a new weapon design by the vyrm unconscious mind to perfectly counter it current prey. But such a weapon comes at a cost and once a spine has been used the weapon is permanent meaning possible years worth of food was used up for this weapon and the vyrm will have to be very wise to recoup it loses.
Access & Availability
While the Vyrm shifter do not hide the secrets of creating the spines, the natural plant is extinct and only the vyrm able to grow and keep them alive. Meaning it is a species only thing now, no other creature will be able to get this adaptation, though some have had the idea of using other similar plant the amount of time and effort would not be worth it. The balance of everything has already been set, and none see a reason to change it.
Complexity
As it is a natural process for the vyrm, they do not understand how compleicated of a system theya re actually using. To keep a ready to make weapon at the ready all day and night, that can perfectly counter their target takes an insane amoutn of mental and physical energy. The amount of food needed to even grow it, let alone maintain it in peak condition is one of the driving reason the vyrm cant just fully swap to being fed by the plants on their body.    The changes to the brain are also interesting as an entirely new part was made meant entirely to go though untold number of possible weapon to find the one right for the battle at hand. This part is usually turn off but once it is one the amount of food it drains is possible quaduple what they would consume in a month or two.
Discovery
Given that it started off as a natural plant, we can say the first interaction between the plant and the vyrm who found it as the discovery point. Given that the Vyrm Shifter was studying and perfecting their Cultivation Magic it was the perfect plant to study and understand how it worked, leading to a deeper understanding of how plants worked and how to make them thrive. As the mastery of this magic increased the effects upon the plant increased up until the point it became a natural part of their body a perfect symboytic relationship between them.
