Barrie Trois
Fort of the Mountain Pass
Barrie Trois was a citadel built into the northern pass of the Crasscrown mountains. At the advent of the Bestial Purges, the citizens of Fanfare recognized the possibility of war and mobilized. Barrie Trois was built as a first line of defense as well as a munitions factory, churning out shoddy weapons and troops in droves.
The war efforts were shunned by the priests and Anthemir herself who claimed the Beastmen or their Paladin adversaries would not clash upon their lands. Indeed, only a single skirmish ever marred its pinewood walls: the [not aptly] name Battle of the Mountain Pass in which Paladin troops mistook the settlement for a Bestial fort and launched an attack that stopped when they recognized their error.
Thus the citadel, lacking funds and support, quickly fell to ruin after the war. But it served an important point in the history of Fanfare as a major decision made by the people against the Tarnipury faith. For that reason, it has demanded to be torn down by the priests repeatedly through the years. Yet because of its remoteness from the city and small size, those requests have been largely ignored.
Peasants have done more damage than the priests, prying away spare wood for their homes and stoves. All that stands today is a crumbling skeleton of the wooden fort.
