Calm As Still Water
A tale of the virtue of cool reason from the Mountainhead church. It was originally created by Stonespeaker Graat of the church before being written down and codified a year after.
Summary
Alone in the forest surrounded by wolves, three lawkeepers have a prisoner. They needed to determine whether he was guilty of his crime, and 2 of them wanted to execute him to save food and get it over with. The third however, realised that they had to investigate the truth and pass judgement accordingly. The remaining two begrudgingly agreed. The investigation was conducted using the evidence brought to them on the case, and while the two that were determined to execute him saw the footprints as evidence, the third noticed something. The glass in the window was left on the outside, meaning someone broke it while inside rather than out. This meant that the prisoner was innocent, and had merely been framed. Without a cool head, they would have killed an innocent man.
Historical Basis
There was a trial where 2/3 of the jury were fed up and wanted to go home but one didn't and that determined that the person was innocent.
Variations & Mutation
Some of the more religious tales have Recos descend to tell the two lazy judges off for their rash thinking.
