Sacred Font of Mithral Hall
Description
This sacred font is a masterfully crafted mithral vessel designed to fit perfectly within the bronze mask of Gorm that hangs in the Sentinel's Post. The font itself is roughly bowl-shaped with an elegant spout, measuring about 8 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep, allowing it to nestle seamlessly behind the mask's mouth opening.
The mithral surface is polished to a mirror finish and etched with intricate dwarven runes of protection and blessing around its rim. Four small adamantine feet keep the font stable when placed, and delicate engravings of flowing water patterns spiral around its exterior, seeming to move in the lamplight.
The font was forged in the deepest halls of Mithral Hall by Master Smith Borin Trueforge specifically as a gift for Kaladin's mission in Neverwinter. When properly consecrated, a gentle trickle of blessed water continuously flows from a small opening at the back of the font, filling the basin with sacred water blessed by Gorm's divine power.
Properties
Sacred Waters of Gorm
The font's magical property is its ability to produce an endless supply of holy water. When properly consecrated and placed within the bronze mask of Gorm, a divine spring continuously fills the basin with blessed water.
- Endless Supply: The font produces up to 10 vials worth of holy water per day (each vial equivalent to a standard flask of holy water)
- Automatic Consecration: The water requires no additional blessing rituals - it emerges already sanctified by Gorm's divine power
- Enhanced Potency: Holy water from this font deals maximum damage (2d6 radiant damage) to fiends and undead instead of rolling dice
- Purification: The holy water can also be used to purify food and drink, and for the follows of Gorm, neutralize most natural poisons and diseases when mixed in small quantities
Activation and Maintenance
The font requires the following to function:
- Initial Consecration: A 1-hour ritual performed by a cleric or paladin of Gorm, requiring 50 gp worth of blessed oils and sacred waters
- Daily Tending: 5 minutes of prayer and maintenance each dawn to maintain the divine spring and ensure the holy water continues to flow
- Weekly Offering: A small offering of crafted goods or coins (minimum 5 gp value) placed in the water as tribute to Gorm
If the font goes more than 7 days without proper tending, its magical properties become dormant until re-consecrated.
History and Significance
Creation in Mithral Hall
The Sacred Font was commissioned by Dain Battlehammer and crafted by the temple smiths of Mithral Hall as both a practical gift and a symbol of the clan's support for Kaladin's mission. The mithral was mined from the deepest veins of the mountain, where it lay closest to the heart of Gorm's protective influence.
Master Smith Borin Trueforge, a distant cousin of the Battlehammer clan, worked for three months to complete the piece. Each rune was inscribed during specific holy days dedicated to Gorm, and the final consecration involved blessings from twelve different clerics representing the major dwarven holds of the North.
