Docks
The Dock District of Neverwinter stands as a testament to resilience amid the turbulent history of the City of Skilled Hands. As of 1495 DR (Dale Reckoning), this waterfront quarter has fully recovered from the devastation of Mount Hotenow's eruption decades prior, once again becoming the bustling heart of maritime commerce on the Sword Coast North.
Stretching along the Neverwinter River's mouth where it meets the Sea of Swords, the district pulses with activity from dawn till dusk. Merchant vessels from Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate, and as far as the Moonshae Isles crowd the newly reconstructed wharves, their crews mingling with local dockworkers, fisherfolk, and the occasional band of adventurers seeking passage north.
The Tarmalune Trade House dominates the district's skyline, its rebuilt facade sporting the green-and-gold banners of the influential merchant consortium that helped finance Neverwinter's reconstruction. Nearby, the Driftwood Tavern serves as the unofficial headquarters for sailors and captains alike, its common room filled with tales of sea monsters and distant shores.
Not all is legitimate business, however. The shadows between warehouses hide operatives of the Dead Rats, a thieves' guild that has maintained its grip on the district despite Lord Protector Neverember's efforts to root out criminal elements. Their ongoing rivalry with the Sons of Alagondar creates periodic eruptions of violence that the Neverwinter Guard struggles to contain.
For travelers visiting the Jewel of the North in 1495 DR, the Dock District represents both opportunity and danger—a place where fortunes can be made or lost with the changing tides, and where the revival of Neverwinter continues to unfold one ship at a time.
