Battle of Blackford Crossing
The Battle of Blackford crossing was the decisive battle in the spring of 1552 that allowed the forces of Neverwinter to cross the river Mirar and approach Luskan. After years of attrition, both sides were exhausted. By leading the Luskar forces into a trap with a false retreat, the Neveren forces funnelled them into the narrow blackford crossing and assailed them with magical fire. They then formed an arcane shield wall, a technique developed by the Guild of the Eternal Flame. By making a one-way arcane ward, they were able to rout the Luskar forces.
"The river, once an insurmountable barrier, became our gateway to victory. Our soldiers, emboldened by the mages' presence, fought with renewed vigor and determination. Through sheer determination and the coordinated efforts of our combined forces, we managed to breach the enemy's defenses, pushing them back and securing control of Blackford Crossing." - Battle Report, Commander Alric Stormborne, 1552.
Historical Significance
Legacy
Commander Alric Stormborne, in charge of the Neveren army, had this to say about the effects of the battle:
I recommend fostering a closer alliance with the Guild of the Eternal Flame. Their assistance in the Battle of Blackford Crossing has proven their value and earned them the respect they deserve. Engaging in open dialogue and promoting cooperation between our forces and the mages guild will enable us to leverage their formidable powers effectively.
Furthermore, it is essential to recognize and reward the valor and sacrifices made by our troops in this critical battle. Reinforcing their morale through commendations and adequate provisions will ensure their unwavering commitment as we continue to confront the challenges ahead.
By rewarding the troops who showed the most bravery, and by allowing the military and the Guild of the Eternal Flame to work together, the Neveren army was filled with capable, arcane warriors.
