Shaegunda

God of Forbidden Knowledge, Fate, and Dreams

Mortals are like books. Some have succulent information lovingly nestled in the folds of their flesh, to be carefully consumed and savored over infinity. Others have a taste so bland, the only virtue they possess is their own end. Which will you be?
— Shaegunda, Book XXVIII

The Universe is Singing

Some gods represent the common toils of man, while others take hold of their darkest recesses. Shaegunda is the God of Fate, Dreams, and Forbidden Knowledge, the things mortals were never meant to know. Some of Shaegunda's domains overlap with those of other deities. Ethilia weaves the fate of mortals, Muun is the source of sleep and dreams, while the unknowable Mephia holds sway over the unseen. Shaegunda lurks in the shadows of all of these aspects of mortal consciousness, nestling deep within the darkest corners of their senses, only to be found by true seekers of knowledge. Those who devote their soul to him trade their innermost secrets and most intrusive thoughts in exchange for the endless horde of forbidden knowledge in his possession. In this effort, mortals often lose their minds in search of his lore long before finding satisfaction. In line with his connection to the forbidden and unknown, Shaegunda has no consistently humanoid depiction. He is sometimes portrayed as a mass of pulsing flesh, bulging eyes, gnashing teeth, swishing tongues, curling tentacles, and claws resembling those of crabs. His visage is bizarre and unlike anything found in creation. Few temples and known shrines to him can be found around Sol. There are a few cults that pop up now and again in dedication to Shaegunda, often made up of mages and savants desperate for further knowledge, to the point of cutting off all relations in this pursuit. His most faithful, though, are often individual champions — liches, archmages, hermits, and the like — who have spent their lives dedicated to pursuing knowledge of all things, from pan flute songs to the long-term effects of necromancy on the outer planes.

Artifacts

Dreamweaver's Amulet

An unsettling, pulsating amulet with four fleshy tendrils encasing a twitching, seemingly real eyeball. It is said to contain a portion of the power of Shaegunda. This power allows the wearer to peer into the innermost thoughts of others, even as they dream. The most powerful bearers can even weave their own touch to the dreams they peer into, letting them effectively alter the consciousness of other mortals, even in their slumber. It is highly sought after by all kinds of people, including physicians, diviners, and thieves.
