Nehwon Homebrew Dragons

In Nehwon, dragons are mythic and apocalyptic. Their presence alone can break the will of mortals. They are not simply beasts—they are cataclysms given flesh.

Endurance: All dragons have quadruple the hit points listed in RAW.
Catastrophic Damage: All physical attacks (bite, claws, tail, wings) and breath weapons deal quadruple damage compared to RAW. Spell damage remains at RAW values, ensuring dragons remain fearsome without breaking balance through excessive spellcasting.
Dragon Fear: Any creature who sees a dragon must make a Wisdom saving throw at disadvantage (DC 23) or be paralyzed with fear for 1d6 rounds. On a success, the creature is immune to that dragon’s fear for 24 hours.
Challenge Ratings: All dragons have significantly higher CR values due to these changes. Wyrmlings begin around CR 6–8, Adults in the CR 20–23 range, and Ancients reach CR 29–30+. Corresponding XP rewards are increased accordingly (e.g., a Nehwon Ancient Dragon is worth 155,000 XP).

The ranges below are averages; individuals vary with genetics, environment, and diet. Lengths are snout-to-tail; wingspan is tip-to-tip; weights assume dense muscle with partially hollow, reinforced bones.

Wyrmling (20–30 ft / 6–9 m long)

Length: 20–30 ft — like a school bus or semi-truck trailer
Height (at shoulder): ~10 ft — like a giraffe
Wingspan: 40–60 ft — a small jet (Cessna Citation) scale
Weight: ~5–10 tons (4.5–9 t) — about 1–2 African elephants or a fully loaded school bus

Young Dragon (60–120 ft / 18–36 m long)

Length: 60–120 ft — 2–4 railroad cars
Height (standing): 30–40 ft — a 4-story building
Wingspan: 120–200 ft — from Boeing 737 up to Airbus A330 span
Weight: ~40–120 tons (36–109 t) — blue whale range, or roughly 1–2 M1 Abrams tanks × 20

Adult Dragon (180–250 ft / 55–76 m long)

Length: 180–250 ft — near a football field end-to-end
Height (reared up): 100–150 ft — a 10–15 story building
Wingspan: 250–350 ft — wider than a Boeing 747 (212 ft)
Weight: ~400–900 tons (363–816 t) — up to 2× a fully loaded 747 or 3–6 humpback whales

Ancient Dragon (300–400 ft / 91–122 m long)

Length: 300–400 ft — about one-third of a Nimitz-class carrier
Height (upright): 200–300 ft — a 20–30 story skyscraper
Wingspan: 500–700 ft — roughly 2–3 football fields, or three 747s wingtip-to-wingtip
Weight: ~1,500–3,500 tons (1,360–3,175 t) — roughly 10–20 blue whales or a small guided-missile destroyer’s displacement

Perspective

For mythic scale context, the cinematic Smaug has been estimated at ~427 ft long with a wingspan exceeding 700 ft. Nehwon’s ancient dragons sit comfortably in this range—wings that blot out the sun, bodies that span valleys, and a presence that freezes armies in place.
