Nebula, the Shattered Lands Interplanar West Marches Exploration

The Nebula is a world made to hold multitudes of smaller size worlds. These individual worlds are meant to bring a versatile variety to a Western Marches style game for many different DMs with many different DM styles. Maps are generated in shard chunks and follow conventional theming and linking, random generation or module utilization.
Imagine you’re a fish, swimming in a pond. You can move forward and back, side to side, but never up out of the water. If someone were standing beside the pond, watching you, you’d have no idea they were there. To you, that little pond is an entire universe. Now imagine that someone reaches down and lifts you out of the pond. You see that what you thought was the entire world is only a small pool. You see other ponds. Trees. The sky above. You realize you’re a part of a much larger and more mysterious reality than you had ever dreamed of.” ― Blake Crouch, Dark Matter

A world of worlds, the Nebula is a vast celestial ocean of primordial dreamscapes. Long stretches of land twist and churn as the tides, pulling and pushing all matter about the cosm in an enigmatic dance. Nestled in this great web are anomolous speckles that gleam hot and glow. Bleeding into the surrounding spaces they fill it, like great hemmorgic cysts in the cosmic wound. These fractured worlds, shards are a collection that have been long forgotten, banished― or worse- stolen.

People of these small lands sometimes live out their entire lives ignorant of the mysteries beyond their realms. Isolated by edges, these strong barriers can keep a incurious mind safe from the chaos of the Nebula, and the void between worlds. Even so, even worlds on the edge of the Nebula collide with some frequency with their neighbors, causing havoc and drama between the inhabitants.

With the lastest great imperial age fading to a meer blemish in the primordial dust- hidden far from living memory, a new age of exploration has begun. Lands long isolated by waning powers have become exposed once more to the chaos of the multiverse, inspiring adventurers to leave their realms in expedition. Glory, riches, honor, knowledge all await the opportunist who treads the abandoned paths between the stars. New stories await those that look to the stars in awe and forge their own paths, bringing new discoveries and uniting multitudes in the boundless reaches of the Nebula.

Nebula, the Shattered Lands is a campaign setting set in a chaotic multiverse where the populace is awakening again to the prospect of breaking out and exploring the frontiers beyond their small worlds. It has unifying themes of exploration, cooperation, and some anti-imperialist undertones.

Players and Gamemasters work cooperatively to shape the Nebula together as they play week after week and the playstyle featured to the right is meant reinforce the theme of community as events roll on. A robust, flexible and mutable canon, the integration of material is made simple and enhanced through interest and activity.

There is no overlying plot and it is entirely driven by the ambitions and motivations of the players and what their characters desire and take interest to. Regardless of what worlds they might encounter there's a noble tone to the world, knowing that players can assist eachother when a challenge is particularly morbid or dire.   >>Explore the Nebula

Nebula, the Shattered Lands is a West Marches Campaign set in Pathfinder 2nd Edition Remastered. As an exploration game it uses hexploration mechanics for the ever important mapping and tracking. Though there is no upper limit on the amount of people participating at the time of writing this (Q1 of 2024), it is the intended to have multiple Game Masters and Players.

Game sessions are to be made by appointment through a common communication system, preferably discord and are constructed using the framework of Expedition Contracts. Games can occur online or in a physical place. A commons archiving game information should be created to communicate and track ideas, link concepts, create continuity and audit character progress.

Depending on the nature of the player pool, a point based system may be implemented to reign in dramatic sweeping changes to the campaign world by a single person (Gamemaster or Player).   >>Explore the Meta-Concepts
