Nation of Autusgurg
The latter half of their name comes from the Gurgan mountain range that separates them from Solaria. The mountains give way to breath taking valleys where the nation’s pride and joy are raised, horses. Their architecture is equally as simple as their way of life. Wooden and stout but quite expansive. Their capital rests in the Serpent Throat Valley, named for the pagan belief of a serpent that held the world at one point. The river cuts the City of Jormungandr in two and snakes through it. They are very peaceful to travelers and welcome most, if not all with open arms.
This is reflected by their ruler, Jarl Mataila, Mistress of Song. A druid since birth, the wood elf woman is the reason they reached out to Solaria in the first place. Within the city she is known for her walks through town, playing joyful music to her subjects and soothing any tension that might be growing. It is a tendency that is not unnoticed by those who live there. Many take up an instrument and join her in harmony as she strolls by. Thus there is never a moment in town without song thanks to her.
Culture
Autusgurg prides itself on both musical and equestrian endeavors. A moment in a town or city without song is an oddity, as just about every city has a school of music.
The nation sits at a crossroads between Solaria and Gerlander and decided that cooperation is what was needed between the two aggressive nations. They sided with Solaria to both prevent Gerlander's warlord raids and Solaria from steamrolling them out of exsistance go stabalize Gerlander. Though peaceful they are no slouch in a conflict. As their cavalry and signal corps are second to none!
Autisian's rarely turn away a traveler. They will often go out of their way to aid others, despite not having much themselves. They are one of the poorer nations in the Empire but use what they have on improving the lives of as many people as possible, and protect/work with nature.
Public Agenda
The Nation of Austusgurg has one main goal and that is to maintain balance between civilization and nature. They joined the Empire in order to keep war off of their land and preserve nature as best they could. They also couldn't afford to lose any number of their most valuable resource, horses, in an all out war.
History
The Nation itself didn't exist until the Empire began their march and found the city of Jormungandr. They said they were claiming the land but the town council stood firm that they would not allow war on their land. Solaria asked to what country they were entering and when the Druids had none they declared themselves a sovereign power. They attempted to rally for war and were ready but the eldest among them, Matalia, urged them to make peace. The conflict would be bloody and this power across the mountains could provide further protection so long as peace was made. Thus she was elected as their representative and she did all she could to make the peace she needed to save her people. Upon returning, officially now the Jarl of the nation she allowed a single state made road to cut through mountains and through to Gerlander. Later this became a Thunder Railway.
Before that little is known. The small town of Jormungandr exploded over night into a bustling trade city with the northern flowing water way being their true line to the Empire. The rest of the countryside is as wild as it has ever been with the exception of settlers making homesteads and small villages. Many take advantage of the wild horses and integrate with the nation well while others band together into bandit factions. Some times they war with one another, complicating the stability of the region but they rarely effect trade so the Empire does little to lift a finger against them. It is down to Autusgurg's own Plain's Guard Cavalry to handle the problem. And they are far too spread out to be of any greater effect than protecting towns from lawlessness.
Demography and Population
The primary humanoid species that lives in Autusgurg is Woodelf. They're known for their darker complection compared to High Elves and had generally been on the material plane for longer.
Many "wild" species live in Autusgurg as well. This includes; Aarokocra, Bugbears, Centaur, Goliaths, Half Orcs, Minotaur and Hobgoblins. Because of this, Autusgurg is often considered the melting pot of the Empire
Military
The only military they have is their professional cavalry. They are filled primarily with nobles who own ranches and train other lower class people as a sort of miniature private army.
Technological Level
Of the other nations in the Empire, they are the most rural. Rarely will any technology or magic that doesn't come from Druic sources be seen.
Foreign Relations
The only nations that dislike Autusgurg are Solaria and Gerlander. Solaria sees them as wild and ungovernable while Gerlander holds a grudge against then for allowing Solarian troops across their land and aiding them with cavalry.
Laws
Autusgurg follows the typical laws protecting Persons, Property and Society. Thievery, rape, murder, property damage, and so on are all punishable with fines and jail time.
They are rather stringent on 'Disturbing the Peace'. Those who go out of their way to be disruptive, bothersome or aggressive to people or property is subject to immediate fine, punishable by public service if fine is not payable. But typically they give offenders jobs so they have money to live off of.
Agriculture & Industry
Autusgurg primarily grows wheat and grain. Though not to the extent of a country like Farcina. They have no major industry or export outside of hourses. Autusian Horses are some of the fastest and strongest of their species!
Trade & Transport
Almost everywhere is reachable by horse drawn carriages and carts. They ashew paved roads outside of major cities and build along rivers and lakes. The Thunder Rail runs through the country but only stops in Jormungandr.
Their primary trade is in horses. They have vast, wide open pastures where horse ranches raise the nation's famous steeds.
Education
They participate in the Empire's public education system. However their agrerion society doesn't really partake of it. The education of children is mandatory but they do not force them into an accedemic place. Punishment for truancy is rarely enforced. This doesn't mean they're uneducated. Their education is more practical to their every day lives. They value progressing to owning a plot of land and cultivating it for whatever your needs are. It's very open and only really works in their region.
