Eladrian

Eladrian is an archaic, graceful language spoken by the first fae-born and eldest lineages of elves. It is said to have been gifted by the primal gods to the first song-weavers, who used it to shape magic itself. Over millennia, Eladrian splintered into Sylvanelle (language of the fey and woodland spirits) and Elvish (language of mortal elvenkind), but idioms, poetic forms, and root words still echo in their modern speech.
Eladrian is a runic, tonal language marked by flowing, melodic cadences and complex grammatical inflections that can imbue words with emotional undertones.

Writing System

  • Runic in nature, with curling lines and branches reminiscent of vines or roots. Each rune can denote a phoneme and carries magical weight, often carved into wands, stones, or trees.
  • Vowels are sometimes marked by smaller diacritics above or below the primary runes.

Geographical Distribution

This language is commonly spolen by Eladrin in the feywild. This langauge is sparsely used in The Lilted Vale. More commonly used in forested areas and settlement on the outskirts of major cities in The Lilted Vale.

Phonology

  • Rich in liquids (l, r), nasals (m, n), and fricatives (th, sh, v).
  • Frequent use of diphthongs (ai, ae, oi, ei).
  • Syllables often open (ending in vowels) to maintain melodic flow.

Morphology

  • Words are built through agglutination, combining roots and affixes to layer meaning.
  • Prefixes denote tense or emotional color; suffixes indicate plurality, possession, or level of respect.

Syntax

  • Generally Subject-Object-Verb (SOV), which gives the language a poetic, cascading feel.
  • Example: "I the river cross."
  • Indirect objects or location phrases often come before direct objects for emphasis.
