The Saltwind Consortium

Overview

Society Name:

Saltwind Consortium

Society Concept:

The Saltwind Consortium is a newly emerging coastal culture formed by a coalition of seafaring clans of Brinewarden who occupy warm, fertile shores and archipelagos. Though not yet a unified nation or complex merchant empire, these clans have begun to organize loosely around shared trade interests — salt harvesting, fish drying, shallow-sea gathering, and culinary experimentation.

The “Consortium” is more aspirational than formal. It is essentially a series of coastal markets where clan elders gather to exchange goods, recipes, spices, and fishing rights. Rivalries exist, but so does mutual dependence. Their culinary skill is growing as they experiment with brine techniques, fermentation, sea herbs, roasted fish, and early spice blends brought by travelers.

A growing cultural trait is indulgence — feasts, tasting gatherings, and competitions of skill. This gluttonous streak is not yet a decadent vice; it is a sign of prosperity in a young world where abundance is fragile.

Their trade is simple but expanding:

  • dried fish
  • salted meat
  • sea herbs
  • pickled kelp jars
  • early wine-salt blends
  • smoked seafood
  • basic ingredients for Windborne voyages

They are beginning to discover their identity as coastal connoisseurs, not yet the powerful, manipulative merchant-lords they might one day become. Their relationship with the Windborne Whalers is cooperative but cautious: the Windborne bring stories of deep ocean dangers, while the Saltwind clans offer fine foods and preserved goods that keep whaling crews alive at sea.

In this early age, the Saltwind Consortium is simply a sea-loving people tasting the world for the first time — not yet realizing they may grow into something much larger.
