The Archive
Alright, so I myself, Soma, will be taking over from here, as these are events that occurred long after Bifrost's tragic death.
In the beginning of 2744, Almahna Academy was set to finally reopen after its destruction several years ago, and we were helping Crystal with moving everything into the building and getting it ready to receive students. We came into the Campus District, where it apparently was moved from its original location in the Palace District. I won't get into the specifics of it all, but I've heard that part of the Nobles District was re-possessed so that the Academy could be moved there. I can imagine many nobles were not too happy about that.
Anyway. One day a few of us were helping Deanna with moving her stuff in to her office, since she was set to be the new archaeology professor, when we made a wrong turn somewhere, and ended up on the third sub-basement level. After yet another wrong turn, we found ourselves at a dead end. And that's when it happened. Deanna tipped something over by mistake and broke a hole in the wall.
Through the hole, we found a massive chamber lined with bookshelves every which way. We were all amazed. It looked to be hundreds of years old. And apparently it was!
Deanna explained that back in the 1300's of the Second Age, a man by the name of Dr. Ivan Sanderson was a world famous mystizoologist, and he traveled the world investigating all sorts of creature sightings and researching Mystimon, and he established the Mystiary and was responsible for alot of what we know about Mystimon today. However, upon his death in 1392, his archive which contained all of his research, was mysteriously lost. Vanished. No one knew where it was. Deanna thought we were in fact standing in it, that here it's been in the catacombs of what was the nobles district for a thousand years.
And indeed we were. We have not even had the time to comb through all of his research. There's years worth in there! Dr. Larina Grey has begun the process of transcribing the texts so that the originals could then be sent to the museum for safe keeping, which could literally take years. I have been helping her, as has Aime. But there is so much here! And now we can continue Dr. Ivan Sanderson's work. We can pick up where he left off. It's fascinating.
We have now begun restoring the place, and it has become a second base of operations, alongside the ranch. We have taken to calling it 'the Archive'. A fitting name if ever there was one.
Purpose / Function
The Archive was once a workplace for Doctor Ivan Sanderson, and it has now become a secondary base of operations for us, the Hidden Archives.
Design
It is a large rectangular room, about 120 feet by 60 feet, constructed of sandstone walls, 3 levels below the ground level of the Almahna Academy. The ceiling is about 100 feet high.
Entries
As far as we are aware at the moment, there is only one way in or out of this room, which doesn't leave much room for a fire escape, that being a double set of doors, about 15 feet tall. When we're not in there, the Archive is kept locked.
Sensory & Appearance
The temperature in here is cool, and it is brightly lit by several Mystia lamps along the walls. As you are coming in, it really feels most like a library, but for the noises made by our fellow investigators.
Denizens
The only people allowed in this room are the Hidden Archives investigators, and Crystal, Sera, Dr. Larina Grey, Deanna, and other fellow allies.
Contents & Furnishings
The room is lined with bookcases upon bookcases, with so many books and files, including the many thousands of notes of Dr. Ivan Sanderson, which Dr. Larina Grey has begun work on transcribing so that the originals may be preserved at the museum. In the centre of the room is a long table, with several desks scattered through out.
Valuables
All of the books and journals and notes of Dr. Ivan Sanderson are priceless historical treasures which must be preserved at all costs.
Architecture
The room is constructed of solid sandstone walls with thick wooden doors, constructed in Ancient Almahnan design, much like a chamber in King's Valley.
History
The room has housed the secret library of Dr. Ivan Sanderson for well over a millennium. Before the Hidden Archives found it, it sat lost and vacant for a thousand years after the death of its original occupant back in 1392 2A. Before then, it served as the workplace and library of the great Mystizoologist. The notes and journals left behind in this Archive are all that remain of his work, which included the formation of the Mystiary.
