Speaker of Selene

General description: Being the Speaker of Selene is the highest rank a Shifting Tamer can aspire to, being the highest political position in the world. This individual is the representative of this kind of magic and not everyone is considered worthy enough to even try for a chance. The elected candidate to this rank is responsible to maintain the peace and order alongside the other Speakers in the "Council of Whispers" they are also the ones who will choose between their high ranked and trusted Tamers for the Stone Keepers, Generals and Selectors.   In order to be considered suitable for this job there are a list of very specific lineaments that must followed strictly, and when a possible option is found the Council of Whispers must hold a reunion that lasts six days where the previous Shifting Speaker will display all the characteristics, achievements and attributes of the possible applicant. If every member of the council agrees in giving them a chance the nominee will face six trials, and if they are successful in all of them the previous Speaker of Selene will step down from the position for it to be handed in a special ceremony.   The trials and applications for the position are made in a very specific period of time since the six magic types must change their Speaker at the same time unless an exception is needed. When the new Speakers meet for the first time they must share an special salute and gift to each other as a sign of respect and peace, still in the following days is probable that one of them rises to be the most capable one, assuming the rank of Lead Speaker, who's opinion and decisions are usually followed by the other members if no opposition is expressed.   Background:  Thanks to Selene being the martyr her Speakers always have a positive prejudice going for them, exactly the opposite to a Speaker of Siskli. They are also seen as one of the wisest and kindest type of Speaker, making them the ones Tamers prefer to present their problems to most of the time. When a Speaker of Selene becomes Lead Speaker some Tamers believe that the natural cycle has restarted and that it is a change of era in a sort of manner.

If the applicant is successful till now the Speaker of their element will preset them to the Council of Whispers who after a short interview will decide to provide or not with their trial.   If the six trials are assigned the Tamer must pass each one of them successfully only being witnessed by the Speaker who gave them the task. If the task is performed correctly then the candidate will have to go through the ceremony to get the title.   In the naming ceremony the current Speaker and soon to be Speaker will go to the Nexus of their magic (Moon Mountain) and the nominee must climb to the top of it, if they accomplish this then the pledge of Selene must be pronounced. When this is done the former Speaker will hand their piece of jewelry (Selene's necklace) and after spending the night in a silent vow the new Speaker will rise and present themselves to the rest of the new council.

Duties

The Speaker of Selene speaks for peace and wisdom, they will look for the well being and interest of their people even and every other being in Myridiam. They are also the representative of the most important of the Fallen Witches, which means that they will have to perform the main ceremony in the Rift Ritual. Due to being considered one of the most mystical types of magic is normal for them to be the listened to and held in consideration, which leads to even bigger responsibility thanks to them trying to maintain peace with all types of magic.

Responsibilities

When being appointed as the new Speaker they must choose if the families with the ranks of Stone Keeper, General and Selector will continue to do so or are no longer suitable and must be replaced by a more appropriate candidate.   They also need to be in constant communication with the other speakers and take a part in all discussions and decisions that affect them, if an important is presented in their magic field they must be able to help resolve the problem, with their own abilities if necessary. Lastly they must be informed of the economical, magical, arrivals, maintenance and laws of the world, and more specifically their magical division, this by asking for informs or doing so themselves.   If a Speaker no longer considers themselves capable of keeping their duty correctly they must communicate this to the Council of Whispers who will decide if all of them should search for a substitute or just said member should be replaced. And they can't leave their position until a replacement is accepted and promoted.   If the rank of Lead Speaker is achieved then the mediation and peace keeping is added to the list of responsibilities. (See Lead Speaker for more.)

Benefits

As a Speaker they get to live in the Rift Hollow, they also get a significant ingress, but the more important aspects are the political and social ones. When the rank of Speaker is given they are considered the highest political figure only competing with the other Speakers and the Lead Speaker. And in the social aspect the Speakers are considered, capable, trustworthy and powerful, also making room for a bigger opportunity for another member being part of this rank in a future.

Accoutrements & Equipment

There isn't a code for dressing, but they tend to use their magical division colors (violet and soft purple for Shifting Magic), they do have a traditional type of clothing when presenting a case to the Council of Whispers, going to the Nexus or ceremonies of public appearance. The only fundamental thing that must be worn is the piece of jewelry given in their naming ceremony, not wearing it in any situation that might be witnessed by another Tamer is taken as a fatal offense.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The removal of a Speaker is really strange to witness, the main case of it being the premature decease of the last one. However if a Speaker is acting recklessly, not behaving properly or not fulfilling their duties or responsibilities the Council of Whispers can reunite and asking the magical division of said Speaker agrees with their destitution the process will begin, asking the Speaker to look for a replacement that applies to all the requirements, if the Speaker refuses the Lead Speaker will act as them in the process of selection If a Speaker reveals confidential information of the Council of Whispers this will result in the immediate removal, same goes if they are caught practicing a Blood Link or curse.

History

After the closing of The Rift and the sacrifice of Selene, Luhin her younger brother took care of the Shifting Tamers and built a town near to Moon Mountain to remember her. This wasn't easy since there wasn't an accessible water source, but they persisted, and after seeing that act of pure kindness Sielu decided to gift them with Mirror Lake, which is said to be made out of her own tears. Shortly after Luhin was chosen as the Speaker of Selene and since then the two magical divisions have been allied, until now. It is said that when the Council of Whispers was created they attended the firsts.

Cultural Significance

Since Selene was known to be the biggest martyr in the whole event of The Rift the Shifting Tamers are always held on high esteem. They are considered to have a knowledge that others don't even without knowing where it comes from, and they are also thought of as mystical and mysterious, being powerful without having to show it that often. Sometimes when they are absent minded other Tamers think that it is due to their Magical Link. They are known for being one of the most peace seeking type of Tamers, and the Speaker of Selene only exacerbate this characteristics.

Notable Holders

The Speakers of Selene just for the fact of being of getting that rank is considered notable, but since Luhin was said to be gifted by the same Sielu and related to Selene he is considered very important. Then the Speakers of Selene that became Lead Speakers are also remember fondly, and Mahina is a bit polemic since she took the peaceful stand but she broke the alliance of many years with the Speaker of Sielu, in this case, Enaiid.
