Magic

Magic is the general term used for the manipulation of the material world through humans. It's classifications changed a lot during the history of the world and vary from culture to culture. It is often classified in two groups that are, somewhat unjustly, called light magic and dark magic.

Classifications and General Theory

Humans can use magic by channelling their will through their celestial core and manipulate energy derived from either The Everchanging or The Everlasting . Because the celestial core is what connects the material world to The Highest Plane , only beings possessing a celestial core can use any type of magic. This is also the reason why humans lose the ability to use magic when their celestial core gets linked to a celestial stone. Most magic gets cast using certain words or gestures in the form of spells because it helps humans to control and manifest their will needed to manipulate the energy in the highest plane. Spells are not (always) needed however if the magic user in highly proficient.     Magic using energy derived from the Everchanging has to be channelled through The Elemental Plane via one or more elemental cores, producing or manipulating the wanted element in the material world. The energy gets either channelled through the desired main elemental core or, after the Great Disaster, through an split elemental core that was and is linked to the celestial core of the person using the magic. This last use of magic is very rare. All magic using the elemental cores is this type of magic. It is important to remember that magic derived from the so-called "light core" is in fact, magic derived from the Everlasting.

Magic using energy derived from the Everlasting gets produced by channelling said energy through the celestial core directly into the material world. It does not pass the elemental plane. Magic from the everlasting can be described as 'calling back' or undoing the effects of the Everchanging in the material world. It is said that the vectors of the energy from the Everchanging and the Everlasting are completely opposite, which explains why the magic from the Everlasting cancels or undoes magic from the Everchanging. Humans often wrongly classify this type of magic as derived from a "light core". In reality, the working of magic using the Everchanging and the elemental cores is completely different from the working of the magic from the Everlasting.

Types of Magic

Different cultures and different eras used magic in different ways. This resulted in different types or schools of magic. Most parts of the world classify magic as either "dark magic" or "light magic". This classification is inaccurate and stems from wrong assumptions about the functioning of the world. The first section shows the usual classifications of the different schools of magic, while the second section shows a more accurate analysis of the same schools.
  Ordinary assumed categories:
  • Light magic:
    1. healing magic
    2. defence magic
    3. time magic
    4. plant magic
    5. colour magic
  • Dark magic:
    1. ground magic
    2. beast magic, necromancy, pyromancy, water magic, ice magic, wind magic, dynamic magic, weather magic
Objective categories:   Energy of the Everlasting: healing magic, defence magic, time magic   Energy of the Everchanging:
  • Organic core: plant magic, ground magic, beast magic, necromancy
  • Fire core: pyromancy, colour magic
  • Water core: water magic, ice magic, weather magic
  • Kinetic core: wind magic, dynamic magic, weather magic
