Puffin Lizard

Aviforma frater

A common sight along the Dawn Coast, these creatures seem at first to be so familiar, but a closer look will reveal the peculiarities that so strongly typify these lands.
— Stephen Ernest, Zoologist's Guide to the Morning Shore.
The Puffin Lizard is a species of semi-aquatic Aviform reptile that is native to The Dawn Coast. The Puffin Lizard is, unsurprisingly, named after the puffins from the Old Lands, whith whom they bear a striking resemblance.   The Puffin Lizard has a majority black plumage, with white feathers adorning their chests and bellies. Their snouts are rounded in appearance and brightly coloured with wide bands of white and orange or red scales. Their tail fronds are elongated compared to many other Aviforms, and the tail itself is more heavily muscled giving it an almost whale-like appearance. Puffin Lizards live in large nesting colonies among the myriad sea pillars found along the Daen Coast, such as the famous Hollowrock, and among the rocks at the southern edge of The Fangs.   Like the other native reptiles of the Morning Shores, the Puffin Lizard bears no common ancestry with reptiles from the Old Lands, and the resemblance is the product of convergent evolution. The Puffin Lizard has the four eyes common to Morning Shores reptiles, and like many other Aviform reptiles the Puffin Lizard's feathers cover almost the entirety of their body.   Puffin Lizard meat has become a traditional Sunday meal for the religious communities along the Dawn Coast, the result of the Puffin Lizard being classified as a type of fish by the Bishopric of St. Jacques.
