Aeternum

The ancient capital of the Ilium Magocracy. In the Age of Wonder it was a massive city of magic with wonderful sights of brightly coloured buildings made from glass and crystal, magical lights in every colour, programmed illusions offering goods in shops and magical machines all around. There were crystalline palaces, flying machines, airship platforms and portals connecting to other places all over the world.

In the center of the city there was a massive spire going up to the sky. Among the clouds there was a platform for magical airships to dock and unload. The heart of trade in the city it had magically powered lifts and cranes to move the goods from the airships to the warehouses below. Some of them kept cold or hot by magic for the storage of certain goods.

All temples and shrines were banned from the city. Some ancient temples were converted into workshops or houses by the mages of the city. The old temple of Athor was expanded and converted into the Atrium Magorum, the seat of power of the Illium Assembly and the Council of Archmagi.

Present day

The city and the rest of the Magocracy was the focal point of the Divine attacks of the Gods. The Arcane Shields held them at bay for a time but quickly depleted their magical reserves after magic was cut-off from the world. When the cities were open to the Divine the Gods took out their vengeance on the people who abandoned them so long ago. Beams of divine light scorched the buildings and carved huge fissures in the ground. The earth itself shook with quakes from below and parts of the city fell into giant sinkholes. On the surface portals to the Abyss were opened and demons swarmed out to kill anyone unfortunate to get caught.

For days the city was bombarded by great magical powers until nothing but rubble remained on the surface. However, a collection of underground bunkers and tunnels survived and held some of the survivors but with all the entrances destroyed were cut-off from the surface.
