Therralisan "Elven"

When Spellborns came into existence long ago, their language abilities greatly increased. They understood Common of course as it is the language of majority Commonkind, but they found they could speak to other Spellborn in a different language entirely. One that was just...understood with the way they intended and nearly wove magic into it. Over time as they evolved into Elves, they realized it's an innate language with very little finetuning required as children grow into adulthood, and the other Commonkind could not understand it in the slightest.

In later years as the Elves mingled with other races and made families, the realization that their language did not pass down to non-Elvens was horrifying. Even moreso is the fact that their beloved mixed children could not easily grasp their parent's native language and it took much, much more schooling and effort to have them understand the nuances of Elven.

When the majority of Elves had their connection to magic severed or were simply eaten in the initial wave of Aberrants, the memorabilia became obsolete. Not a soul could understand any of the written word and thus powerful knowledge became lost in mere days. Some Elves bartered their ancestor's artifacts to get necessary survival items, some left them behind entirely when aberrants wandered too close or outright invaded, while others simply gave it away as "useless junk".

In present time, all Elves have the ability to speak the Therralisan now that their magic has connected once more, albeit with many cultural differences and nuances as expected in the thousand years they've lived without. An added bonus is the offspring of Elves, be it full Elf or half, also can speak Therralisan thanks to the intervention of the Harbinger of Hope.

Writing System

The written language of Therralisan is as much an art as it is a mode of communication. It is composed of elegant, flowing runes, each intricately designed to reflect the natural and mystical world of the Niriallunor (elves). These runes are not static; their appearance is imbued with magic, causing them to shift colors and even subtly glow, conveying emotional, contextual, or magical significance.

Characteristics of Therralisan Script:

  1. Dynamic Colors
  2. Emotionally Responsive: The runes’ colors shift according to the writer's emotional state. For instance:
  3. Joyful writing might emit warm golds and vibrant greens.
  4. Mourning produces deep greys and muted blues.
  5. Anger or urgency ignites bright reds or fiery oranges.
  6. Reader’s Influence: Upon reading, the runes may subtly react to the emotions of the reader, enhancing comprehension and empathy.
  7. Contextual Luminescence
  8. Practical Use: In low-light environments, Therralisan runes emit a faint luminescence, allowing them to be read easily even in the dark.
  9. Magical Meaning: Text intended for magical purposes may glow more brightly or pulse with energy, signaling its arcane function.
  10. Starlight Effect: Runes crafted in honor of Allune often shimmer like stars, with silver or pale blue highlights.

Traditionally, the runes are written in ink derived from natural materials such as crushed Moonflower or milled Starlight berries. The characteristics of the plants used to make the ink change the runes strength in terms of emotional response and magical intuition for context.
