Dracomages
Dracomages are the original magic casters of Mordia, humanoids (Spellborns) with innate magical affinity bonded to dragons who are a blessing directly from the two Primordial dragons themselves that have the innate ability to draw upon the powers within the spheres surrounding Mordia.
All dracomages were Spellborn to start with; humanoids who were born with an innate connection to the spheres. Those who did not become bonded with a dragon during the bond ceremony had their connections severed by the Dracomatriarch.
Those who were successfully bonded were sent to Benjamar Academy to begin learning how to fight alongside their dragon, come into their own abilities, and become powerful weapons of protection and destruction. The especially powerful were then sent to the Queen herself to become an Unbound dracomage; someone who had the authority of the Dracomatriarch herself and the power backing to do what they saw fit. They were the most powerful of the Dracomages, the commanding officers in any situation, and the first boots on the ground in any dangerous situation.

Family names
After a human is chosen by a dragon to bond with, they no longer can go by their birth last name. Instead, a new last name is given to them upon graduation by the Instructor that reflects the type of dragon they have, any unique identifying strength of the human that flourishes as a result of the power shared between the two, and any potential abilities they may grow into or currently excel at. There are common last names that It typically looks like “Bladesinger” for a human skilled with swords and a Breezing dragon, for example. Often times by the end of training, both dragon and human have progressed their abilities into incredible feats of magical strength such telekinesis or time alteration.
If the Dracomage does not like their last name, they do have the option of petitioning a revision by the Instructor and explaining why they don’t like it and what they believe it should better represent.
