Deceit of the Blood Ruby

The party take a job under false pretense, coming into conflict with werewolves as they travel. Learning the truth and then setting to help their client with his real goal, the destruction of a Blood Gem.

The Dungeon Dogs arrive back in Eggport and get a quest to help a Dwarf named Kunain who would like help getting to a monastery near Winfolk in hopes to find a cure for this "curse" he has. They didn't stay long, being under the impression Kunain was cursed, and made to leave. Along the way they were amushed by a small pack of pureblood werewolves in broad daylight on the streets of Eggport.

Following their departure from the city Mithrac, Wyllia, Xander, and Ten interrogated a captured werewolf identified as Rhunvar of the Varkaan Clan. During the exchange, they learned that Kunain had stolen a ruby linked to the power of the clan's Alpha, Varik—an artifact Ten recognized as consistent with relics held by some werewolf clans. Under pressure, the dwarf eventually confessed that he was guiding the party to his employer, a cleric of Sarenrae.

As the journey went on Rhunvar opened up more telling the party about the Pack he comes from and how determined Varik will be to get the ruby back. Mandrak and Wyllia study the gem and learn it's called a blood ruby that is made from human blood, and emits a strong transmutation aura. The Sylvan reach forest gives them some trouble passing through, but in the end able to make it through to see the monastery they are going to is under attack.

After a quick skirmish the werewolves flee, and the party find the priests safely inside. They learn of a ritual to destroy the gem and quickly prepare for and execute. They also ready defenses for an almost guarantied werewolf attack, which ended up being needed. with a few minutes left in the ritual wolves were spotted in the tree line and soon several wolves and werewolves charge the monastery. Werewolves continue to come from the woods in waves, until the alpha is called out and challenged bringing forward a large white furred monstrosity of a werewolf. It's a ferocious fight but in the end the party help defeat Varik causing the other werewolves to stop fighting and surrender to Rhunvar, and taking him as their new alpha. Shortly after the ritual concludes with the gem crumbling to dust.
