Akkala Citadel
Purpose / Function
The Akkala Citadel was constructed to serve as a fortress on Hyrule's east coast.
History
The Akkala region was the easiest point of access for sea trade with the nations of Holdrum and Labrynna across the sea, but in the century prior to the Calamity, rising tensions with Holodrum led to the construction of a strong defensive position, high atop a bluff overlooking the ocean. The Akkala Citadel was the first Hyrulean stronghold to utilize canons and was manned year-round by troops even in peace-time.
During the Calamity, the Citadel has been considered Hyrule's "last stand." With King Rhoam Bosphoramus dead, and Zelda I, accompanied by the Hero of the Wilds, presumed dead as well, the last vestiges of the Hyrulean Royal Guard and the militia fled to the Citadel.
