The Vesikatli
Once a peaceful people of farmers and traders, the Vesikatli are known today chiefly as a brutal and fanatical group of desperates, worshiping the very thing that doomed the people of the Gouge to their hard-scrabble existence. Native to the slopes of the volcano Raantchlaan, few groups in the Gouge have as intimate connection to the region's geological history as the Vesikatli, and few fought the Maxian Dominion quite as fiercely--no surprise, given it's been said they would raze their own villages to the ground if they believed it would please their god.
Naming Traditions
Family names
The Vesikatli have no true family names, and one's familial relationship is primarily demonstrated through common symbols in one's Blood Name.
Other names
Though the Vesikatli are not unique in their fondness of ritual scars, they are unique in using them to determine a person's truest, purest name, known as a Blood Name. At the age of 3, every Vesikatli is put under the knife of a local blood priest, who scarifies a unique pattern into the back of their dominant hand that will become the staple of their identity. These unique scar patterns can be altered throughout one's life, but very few people choose to do so, and even then it is only done for the most momentous of reasons.
