The Blood Priests of the Vesikatli

When people think of the Vesikatli, most immediately think of the Blood Priests and their savage volcano worship. Nothing has gained the Vesikatli their fearsome reputation quite like their religion, which is marked by self-mutilation, human sacrifice, ritual bloodshed, and even cannibalism.

Divine Origins

The religion of the Vesikatli in its modern form sprung up soon after the eruption of Naarvil, though the Vesikatli had worshiped the volcano from time immemorial. Naarvil had long been viewed as a provider and protector for the Vesikatli, and when it exploded, laying waste to their homeland and leaving few survivors, they took it as a sign that the volcano was displeased with their weak, peaceful lifestyle. It did not take long for a cult of volcano priests to spring up, preaching of the volcano's displeasure and advocating for the Vesikatli to return to the warlike roots that had earned them a home on Naarvil's once-fertile slopes. Desperate, starving and with nowhere left to turn, the Vesikatli took the priest's teachings by storm, turning their culture on its head in a matter of mere generations.

Priesthood

Blood Priests take two chief forms: the formal priests who guide the faithful and conduct religious ceremonies, and the extremely devout who dedicate their entire being to worship of Raantchlaan.
