Skirmishes
Following the victory on the beach, the legions didn't waste any time, and their officers split them into three main groupings. The first one was to set up a perimeter that could alert the rest of the army about incoming attacks and similar events. The second group was giving the task of setting up a camp, big enough for the entire army at a nearby location where it would be deemed suitable to establish a camp, they were told to make a permanent fortification camp that unlike the marching camp the legions usually established, were much more fortified and able to withstand attacks at the magnitude that the islanders had shown to be able to. Of course, the general in charge of the army was not sure if this army of islanders was a common thing or if it had been a once every time the planets alined moment were all the nearby clans agreed to attempt to throw the invaders back into the sea.
The third and smallest of the groups was given the task of looking after the injured and mostly consisted of the legion's medics, healers, and priests, as well as many of the walking wounded, those who were too wounded to fight on the frontline or construct in setting up the camp.
Over the following days, the islanders sent ambassadors to the camp, both in an attempt to spy on the legions and learn their strength following the beach battle, but also in an attempt to maybe resolve the situation peacefully. A handful of prisoners from both sides were exchanged, and many of the clans came from legionaries who had washed up further down the beach after having been washed out to sea.
After being on the island for a week, a large storm broke out and in an attempt to prevent their ships being destroyed, the legions had to beach their ships which then became full of water from the rain and waves, ships laying at anchor further out were driven against each other, with a large number of them being destroyed and wrecked with several rendered unseaworthy by losing their rigging and other vital equipment.
The islanders realised the trouble the legions were in and, in the hope of forcing the legions into surrender, the islanders intensified their attacks on groups of legionaries that had been sent out to forage.
Empire: 12 dead, 15 wounded
Islanders: 6–10 dead, several wounded The outcome of this second ambush is the morale of the legions are severly shaken, and the general realises that their stay on the island is impossible in the long term without fresh supplies. Requesting supplies from either the senate back in Pearlhal would take month,s and even contacting the other legions on the mainland across the island, it would still take at best a week, as they would have to repair a suitable ship to make the trip.
The Ridge Ambush
Due to the attacks on the forage parties, the legions were forced to forage in groups of two centuries at the time, and on the 8th day, two centuries pushed further inland in search of food and fuel for the fires, having marched ofr maybe an hour, advancing along a shallow ridge with scrub and bushes, suddenly the bushes comes alive with islanders that sling stones into the formation, shortly after, spears follow and then, the islanders rush in from each side, the officer in charge can see that they are not trying to destroy the formation only to harass it but with the numbers they field, they are just one mistake from being able to destroy the centuries. Recovering from their surprise quickly, being veterans of many battles, the legionaries responded methodically as they had been taught in their training camps. The two centre columns of legionaries turn to each side, letting loose their javelins and driving the islanders back with volleys of javelins, the outer columns having formed up with shields. Having been stunned by the volleys of javelins and the heavy armour of the legionaries, the islanders, after a second charge, melted away, dragging their wounded away. Estimated to be a tactical victory for the legions.Second Skirmish: The lake ambush
Two days following the Ridge Ambush, another formation of two centuries were out foraging and had reached a large lake, the scouts report that there are a couple of boats dragged up on the shore but there dont seem to be any islanders, as the formation prepares to gather water and setting up a small basecamp from where they would gather resources from, fire arrows fly out from nowhere and ignite the boats along the shore, large amount of smokes surges upward and cover the area in a thick and stinging smoke, to make it worse, from the water, islanders rise, their faces slick with mud, weapons drawn, some even sporting weapons looted from fallen legionares. The islanders from the lake manage to overwhelm several legionaries before the new threat is spotted, fighting breaks out in close quarters, the training of the legionaries and their armour helps, but the islanders are experts in single combat. As fast as the attack hit, the islanders retreated, covered by the smoke. Casualties:Empire: 12 dead, 15 wounded
