Kyr-Amnion

Kyr-Amnion is the sacred city of the Thaléthri people; it's their largest city and acts both as a centre of the people but also a sanctuary for their religion, where the largest and most important temples of the people can be found. It lies in a crescent bay, the Kyr bay, with its turquoise water, protected by reefs and natural and manmade breakwaters.   From the sea, Kyr-Amnion appears as a terraced rise of white and pale blue stone with red and ochre frescoes depicting the waves of the sea, dancers, and ships full of cargo. and like a typical Thaléthri city, it appears as a large single building, with layered roofs, often used as walkways leading to other rooms and corridors. Inside Kyr-Amnion, the corridors, courts, stairways, and sanctuaries all sprawl out from a central plaza. Outsiders always get lost in such settlements and therefore require a guide, many outsiders have described the city smelling of incense, salt and oil, and warm stone. Many of the inhabitants, especially the poor, are born, live and die with only setting food outside the city on certain days when festivals and religious rituals are performed. The only population group that regularly spends most of their time outside its walls are the traders, merchants and the like as they work on the harbour of the city.    On the walls that lies down towards the water, the warehouses are built into the walls, a few taverns and lodging halls are located outside the city proper and acts mainly as a place for outsiders to stay if they dont intend to spend a lot of time in Kyr-Amnion.   Around the inner central plaza lie the great temples of Kyr-Amnion, the most sacred temples of the Thaléthri; likewise, one can also find the rooms of the rulers of the city. The people of Kyr-Amnion are known for being graceful, proud and very hospitable. Likewise, they are very superstitious and driven by rituals; their public life involves dancing, music and religious festivals.   Kyr-Amnion has never been taken by force, as it's nearly impossible to conquer. If an invader breaches the walls, they find themself in a labyrinth of corridors and hallways that only the locals know where they lead. This gives the defenders a countless number of chokepoints to defend from, and they can use hidden pathways to move around the enemy. The city has only been taken once, and it was done by siege and starving the defenders out.   In the land around Kyr-Amnion lie the Estates of the nobility as well as satellite villages that tend to the fields and forests that supply Kyr-Amnion with goods; the villages fall under the authority of the city.
