Daria Iola
Daria Iola is a native of the Mare River area and the surrounding waters. It's believed they are migratory in nature, as they seem to disappear from the waters between the months of Auroria and Aetheria, going by the Calender for the Empire. Scholars have estimated that in this period, they migrate to a place where they mate before returning to the river and surrounding waters to hatch their eggs. It's known that Daria Iola gives birth to live young
One can recognise a Daria Iola by its white scales along its back, running from the head to the top of the tail; the colouring of the fish can range from grey to a blueish colouring; its fins are grey. Its diet, while it's young and estimated to be less than two metres in length, consists of over 80% molluscs, small fish and crustaceans, with the other 20% being insect larvae, worms and the occasional dead animal that washes out into the river. As the Daria Iola grows larger, its diet changes to more active hunting based on the finds in the ones caught. Those that have reached the largest estimated length of the fish have been found with small deer in their stomach, as well as other smaller Daria Iolas.
Despite the danger assositated with catching the fish, the Daria Iola are a mainstay of food for the islanders, outside their meat, the scales of the fish are also a great source of materials used by the islanders as they are tough, but most importantly, shap, they are often used by attatching them to clubs and maces, giving the weapons an extra source from where they can draw damage.
