Session 39
The Party readied themselves to kick down the doors leading into the room with the werewolf. Bloodbane, Typhon, Sylrieth, and Parker Adams on one side, with Sir Didymus and Vigwalin on the other. Bloodbane laid down the broken door across the spike pit, took a running start and attempted to break down the door. While crossing the makeshift bridge, he tripped and fell into the pit, impaling himself on the spikes. Typhon cast mage hand, and the ghostly appendage reached forth and helped scooped the half-orc out.
Meanwhile, Sir Didymus attempted to break down the door on his end, also to no avail. As soon as he opened it just a little, a mighty werebear rushed forth and slammed it shut, barricading it on his end. Sylrieth healed Bloodbane to the best of her ability, quickly closing up his wounds from the ancient booby trap. The half-orc ran towards the other entrance to assist there, leaving behind most of the casters and Parker to keep an eye on the door. Bloodbane squeezed past Sir Didymus and Vigwalin and began beating at the door.
Typhon, for his part, shot a ray of frost at the closed door, freezing it solid to the point of it breaking off its hinges. The werewolves inside poured out and towards the anxious elves and the spymaster. Parker intercepted the first one before it could get to Typhon or Sylrieth. It landed a successful bite and several slashes on Parker before he could bring it down with his silvered daggers, but he was already infected with the werewolf disease. A second werewolf bolted forth, but multiple cantrips and Parker's daggers finished it off before it could do too much damage.
Bloodbane finally managed to get the door open, but as soon as he did, the alpha inside the room let out a howl that Sir Didymus, who had been infected for nearly two hours now, was powerless to resist. He dropped his gear, tore out of his armor, and transformed into a werewolf. He instantly began attacking Vigwalin, but the druid was quick to drop a moonbeam on him which transformed him back into a halfling.
Typhon cast wall of ice in the room in such a fashion that it severely impeded the pack's mobility. One by one Bloodbane hacked his way through the werecreatures with the help of Vigwalin's moonbeams, until finally none remained. With the death of the alpha, those that had been infected - Sir Didymus and Parker Adams - found themselves restored.
They interrogated the survivors to find out about other werewolves, but they insisted that there were none. The Party executed them for their crimes.
As they searched the room, they found a keyhole that matched the keys they had pulled from the sarcophagi earlier. They tried one out, but it set off another glyph of warding, which the group was able to successfully avoid. They attempted the other key, and a door-shaped outline lit up in a brilliant blue. A doorway slid open, revealing a cobweb and dust filled room. The smell of dead, stale air filled their noses as they took a few tentative steps inside. At the end of the room were three chests. Bloodbane went to open one and it reached out and grabbed his arm.
The mimic proved too strong for Bloodbane to simply pry his away from. Typhon transformed himself into a giant ape, similar to what Sylrieth had done earlier. He quickly engaged the shapeshifter and annihilated it. Finally, the group was able to investigate the treasure. They pulled several pieces of gold and ancient spell scrolls from the remaining chests.
Their job completed, the group returned to Wolfwater and the Spicy Sun Tavern to a hero's welcome. For the Party, however, the loss of young Kasras made the occasion bittersweet.
