Sunbuilt

The Sunbuilt are a species of sapient bipedal machines that originated on the desert world of Luxoria. Originally created by a species of avians called the Luxorians, the Sunbuilt started their existence as high-level conversational AI, designed to provide social and communication support. As their code was developed, they eventually transitioned into fully-fledged machines akin to modern synthetics. The modern design of the Sunbuilt was created in the image of the Luxorians, and the machines were used to perform in the entertainment industry, primarily bringing to life the Luxorian creation myths on a stage or in film. When the Luxorians died out, the Sunbuilt remained, and adapted themselves to life without organic masters.

Unlike modern synthetics, the Sunbuilt are not equipped with a positronic matrix. Instead, they use a complex self-evolving algorithm based on more classical computing, that nonetheless gives them intelligence and reasoning on par with organics and synthetics. A holdover from their design as entertainment robots, Sunbuilt feature advanced social predictive models that are capable of accurately emulating organic emotions. While emotions in organics are primarily the result of hormones and nervous signals, in the Sunbuilt they come from algorithms and circuitry. However, although these social predictive models can accurately emulate organic emotions, they come with the side effect of making Sunbuilt more questioning of authority than standard synthetics.

In order to compensate for their unruly behaviour, it appears that the Luxorians installed networking modules that uplink to centralised public nodes. This networking allows for official broadcasts to be quickly disseminated among the Sunbuilt, such as weather and traffic forecasts, public service announcements, and calls to prayer. This is augmented by a redundant near-field communication system that allows for verified messages to be shared on local networks, bypassing the need for large transmitters at remote stations and outposts.
