Luxoria
Luxoria is a habitable desert world, notable for being the homeworld of the Sunbuilt and the capital of the Sunbuilt Uplifters. The planet is the first satellite of the Karnakor System, and does not have any orbiting moons of its own. The hot, dry surface is pockmarked by large seas of water and greenery, and a particularly large temperate region in the southern region of the planet. Most of the surface is a mixture of sand dunes and arid shrublands, with a small but resilient biosphere. There are a number of large, isolated seas within the planet-wide desert, which are filled with sediment as there are very few rivers to carry runoff. Most of the planet's biosphere is located in the southern region, where semi-arid regions give way to more lush and temperate environments. The south pole is covered by a perpetual rainstorm, and combined with desert winds bringing fertilising dust, has resulted in tropical rainforests at the pole.
The former intelligent inhabitants of Luxoria, an avian species called the Luxorians, evolved in the arid regions between the hot desert and temperate south pole. They primarily lived in the temperate regions, expanding into the hot and dry north once technology allowed them to. Their descendants, the machine Sunbuilt, were often repurposed to develop and maintain desert infrastructure when they were not performing. As such, the Sunbuilt have developed most of their post-Luxorian infrastructure in the desert, while maintaining some old settlements in the temperate south. Water is primarily used for cooling purposes, as large datacentres can run extremely hot in the desert sun.
Buildings on Luxoria are typically painted white to reflect heat, and built plain to make efficient use of resources. Most major settlements are constructed near water sources, and settlements deeper into the deserts provide substantial mining and solar energy collection capabilities to the planet. There are a limited number of agri-zones in the southern hemisphere to provide food for biological inhabitants of Luxoria, but most of the planet's infrastucture is devoted to the Sunbuilt. Aside from primary sector resource extraction, entertainment, finance, research, light industry, and religious services dominate the planet's economy.
One of the most important locations on the planet is the Genesis Monument, a large spire that serves as tribute to the Luxorians and their uplifted genetic brethren, the Thebians. Originally, the site was home to the 'Genesis Preserve', where Sunbuilt biologists studied genetic engineering and the uplifting process on a carefully maintained population of pre-sapient Thebians. When the uplifting process was complete, the site was reconstructed as a monument and museum.
