Djunn
Djunni are a sapient bipedal mammalian species that originated on the ocean world of Fulsi. The most unique aspect of the Djunn species is its remarkable ability to absorb and incorporate genetic material from consumed biomass. A small 'taste' of genetic material - even degraded or trace amounts - allows a Djunn to incorporate it into its own genetic structure, mutating it in unpredictable ways. Historically, many Djunn have undergone uncontrolled mutations that left them crippled or dead, but modern genetic science and strict incorporation standards have regulated the process. Today, DNA incorporation is a carefully controlled process that essentially always results in beneficial mutations, which are then shared across the species.
While individual Djunn vary wildly in terms of genetics, with many differing in terms of limb configuration and internal organs, there are at least some commonalities between members of the species. They have an innate ability to adapt to whatever task they are performing over a long period, growing limbs and altering their brain chemistry to adapt themselves to their work. This process has been replicated through advanced genetic engineering in other species, but is innate to the Djunn. The species is capable of entering a state of hibernation during winter months, though in the modern day this process is typically artificially activated rather than cyclical.
Despite the autocratic government that the species created, Djunn are known to be highly independent and creative thinkers. These attitudes can often come across as Djunn being loud and obnoxious towards other species.
