Commonwealther
Commonwealthers (sometimes called Diaspora) are Humans derived from those that ventured to the Deneb System in 2095 CE as part of the Ulysses Project. The name "Commonwealther" comes from the Commonwealth of Man, the political organisation established by the Unity colonists several decades after they made planetfall. The term is used to distinguish this group of Humans from those that remained on Earth, who are referred to as Earthers or Terrans.
Commonwealthers pride themselves on their rugged individuality, self-reliance, and martial prowess. Despite their authoritarian government, Commonwealthers strongly believe in the power of the individual to affect change, particularly on the sparesely-populated worlds that dominate the Commonwealth of Man's frontier. Individuals are expected to be able to be self-reliant and capable of defending themselves or humanity as a whole.
Although genetic modification is widespread throughout Commonwealth space, it is not at the same technological level as in the United Nations of Earth. Most Commonwealthers have low-level genetic and cybernetic augmentations, resulting in moderately extended lifespans and an easier time living on foreign worlds. Commonwealthers experience much higher wealth disparity than Earthers do, though many resent the "free handouts" that they perceive Earthers receiving. Instead, Commonwealthers pride themselves on their ability to become wealthy through their own work.
Commonwealthers have a particularly dim view of non-Human life forms, especially sapient aliens. The rough first years of the Unity colony created a culture of suspicion, paranoia, and hatred towards xenos, a culture which today permeates all parts of Commonwealth society. In order to defend themselves against the xeno menace, Commonwealthers regularly train with the Colonial Militia or serve directly in the military. The Human Development Group has created an extensive propaganda network creating a culture of heroism surrounding military service, and most Commonwealthers are all too happy to serve.
