Train
Aetho-magnetic vehicle transporting people and goods
Trains are the primary mode of long-distance transport, operating on single-rail tracks that allow for high-speed, frictionless travel. First introduced in 620, they transformed commerce and daily life by enabling the rapid movement of people and goods between cities and industrial hubs. Today, they remain the fastest and most reliable means of transportation.
Design & Function
Trains travel on a single-rail track, hovering just above it using a controlled repelling field. The propulsion system modulates the magnetic field along the track, pulling or pushing the train forward without the need for mechanical engines. Stability is maintained through an anti-destabilisation system, ensuring the train remains level and balanced even at high speeds.
Unlike cars and buses, which take their repelling body (the wheels) with them, trains travel over a fixed repelling body (the rail). The train’s body never makes contact with the rail, eliminating friction and allowing for smooth acceleration and braking. Speed is controlled by adjusting the field strength and polarity, with standard braking achieved through current reversal and emergency stopping handled by mechanical clamps.
Usage & Accessibility
Trains are used for both passenger and freight transport, forming the backbone of domestic and continental travel. Major cities are connected by extensive rail networks, ensuring quick and efficient transit for commuters, businesses, and industries. Freight trains play a critical role in transporting raw materials, industrial goods, and perishables at high speeds, reducing dependency on road transport for bulk shipments. International train travel is only available on the mainland of Magnus Prime.
Passenger trains are segregated by class, with separate sections for middle class and above and for slaves (helots). This division is strictly enforced, with each section monitored by a security guard.
Tickets are paid for automatically through an integrated system. Cameras scan passengers when they board and disembark, charging the correct account based on the journey distance. If the passenger is a slave (helot), the owner's account is charged. This system ensures seamless and regulated travel as part of The System.
Advantages & Limitations
- Advantages: Trains provide fast, reliable, and high-capacity transportation without the limitations of roads or terrain.
- Limitations: Trains are dependent on intact and undamaged tracks—any disruption to the rail can cause system failure, requiring immediate maintenance.
- One Driver
- One Security Guard per carriage
- Cleaning and maintenance crew
- Restaurant and bar staff
