The Heartlands
The Heartlands lie to the west of the Inner Sea. While there are many small settlements throughout, only Bremen usually shows up on maps. The Heartlands is home to many nomadic tribes of orcs and humans who roam the plains following the various animal herds. Bremen, to the North, is the only connection these lands have with the outside, with tribesman stopping by to trade their pelts and meats on occassion for some of the luxuries that the more settled civilisations have created. However, since the appearance of the Obelisk at Renai, which in turn created the Salt and destroyed the primary farmlands of the inner sea, many of the southern kigndoms have sent settlers to the heartlands, finding a need for new sources of food.
They have met with various levels of success and failure. Some settlements have been allowed to flourish, through alliances with the nearby tribes, but others have tried to force their way in and even settled on what the tribes regard as holy sites, leading to many conflicts. Perhaps the most egregious was a joint settlement party comprised of peoples from each of the southern kigndoms, and survivors of Renai, which landed on The Eye, a small island in the bay that the heartlands surround, and began construction of a settlement there. To the tribes of the Heartlands, The Eye is a forbidden place, from which calamity will be brought forth if defiled. The Tribes blame the recent spate of disasters in the South, such as the volcanos erupting in Goltia, the winds dying down in the Elflands, the waters of the Inner Sea turning dark and becoming highly dangerous and the land itself seeming to rot and become laden with disease in the Heartlands and Bremen to all be because of this sacriliege.
As such, the Heartlands are a pot threatening to boil over, as those that have called the land home for centuries are increasingly feeling slighted. Many of the tribes have banded together to create a large force which now dominates the western Heartlands and has been making moves to the East. They accept the need of the settlers to find new lands, new sources of food, but will not allow them to defile the Heartlands in the process.
