Arce Inmortalium

The Arce Inmortalium is the fortress-headquarters of the Immortals as an organization. The massive fortress complex was designed to be utterly unsiegable, and would never break or yield in the face of overwhelming numbers. Designed furthermore as a secondary refuge site for Setrakian nobility, military officers and peasants who could make the trek through the blasted hills and mountains of the Devil's Spine.   Seated in those harsh mountains, the Arce Inmortalium is even further protected, and is widely considered the safest fortress in the world. If not for its well designed layout and natural geographic protection, then for the simple fact that one residing here would be protected by a garrison of Immortals stationed to guard the center of their organization. Shakan and the Red Circle take up residence here at time when holding court, but typically reside in the Imperial Palace, defending their lord.

Purpose / Function

The Arce Inmortalium was designed to be and currently is the fortress-monastery of the organization known as The Immortals. Their center of operations, base of garrisoning, planning, and strategizing, The Immortals and the high up leadership of their organization known as The Red Circle are seated here. From this well guarded fortress high in the mountains of Setrak, The Immortals coordinate their missions and ways they will strike out and defend The Empire. Coordinating with necessary military forces such as the Imperial Army, The Assembly, the many militant wings of The Church and any other relevant bodies or perhaps even operating on their own, they are a force to be reckoned with and both a military and political power to be wary of.   The fortress was constructed to be of nigh impregnable design, compounding its overwhelming defensibility with that of the further knowledge that the immortal soldiers of The Emperor himself would be stationed there, making it one of the greatest and most defensible postions in the entire plane. Furthermore it was designed with civilian refuge in mind. In the even that Setrak should fall, the fortress is essentially a miniature city awaiting its moment to be inhabited. The slaves, master engineers, most gifted mages and ruthelss taskmasters oversaw the construction of Inmortalium City for over two hundred years.   Currently empty, should the need arise, this massive, true feat of engineering and underground construction may be resided in by up to one hundred million civilians.

Alterations

Initially, the Arce Inmortalium was built as first and foremost the headquarters of The Immortals. After this was completed, the second phase of the project began and lasted for 232 years, the construction of the massive underground city known as Inmortalium City.

Architecture

The architecture and stylization of the Arce Inmortalium is reminiscent of The Immortals themselves. Cold, hard, distant, but not entirely without a taste for flair or panache. The gothic stylizations of the walls and spire like towers and turrets piercing even higher up into the mountains with the interior being darker, yet noble and regal. Rolled red carpets don the floors as torches in hand, master crafted sconces burn, the scent of pleasant incense wafts through the air as Immortals and their servants of various ilk traverse the halls from one of many innumerable rooms to another. The walls are most notably threaded with it is alleged, Iores stone linking the bricks of the massive eighty foot walls together, to provide even more tensile strenght and resistance to them.

Defenses

The Arce Inmortalium bears no garrison of Imperial Army, Church, or even Assembly agents as all are prohibited from defending the sacred fortress other than The Immortals themselves. A garrison of no less than 2,000 Immortals is always present in the unlikely, but ever present possible attack that could occur at any moment upon such an important and strategically valuable location.    Yet it is not just alone these Immortals and their weaponry and armor, for they bear on the walls and inside their fortress innumerable weapons of ancient and esoteric design to deter enemies, massive plasma cannons that rapid fire with unnatural and seemingly what should be impossible speed and force. Mana-gravitic distortion weaponry that crushes bones and liquifies organs. Neuro-elemental manipulation weaponry, God-Flame Incinerators, Soul-Reaper Rocket Pods, and many, many more.

History

The Arce Inmortalium was constructed in 10 PFE for its initial stage in about ten years, finishing construction just short of it in 19 PFE near the ten year mark. This has been the quota that under pain of death the engineers, architects, mages and slaves had been threatened with, and they had achieved it. For this, Harbinger awarded them the Imperial Constructor's Honor. After this, the second phase would begin construction and would finish in 241 PFE. After this, the chief architects and their employees were rewarded with retirement from work. Since 241 PFE the Arce Inmortalium has stood as a beacon of distant, yet ever present power that The Immortals themselves project over the continent of Edrias, and the world itself.
