The Cult of the Emperor

Founding

211CT

The Cult Imperialis are established by decree of the Dragonbreaker Emperor and Exarch Inviso Mortis is appointed to tend to matters of state as the Emperor's right hand.

Following the destruction of most of the Moradon Conclave and the Liberation of Aramathia, Emperor Valafon consolidated his power through the establishment of the Cult Imperialis (also called the Cult of the Emperor).    In a controversial move that shocked the traditionalists, he dissolved the majority of the Order of the Paladins of Dwindal—the ancient order that had served the Republic and Empire for centuries and empowered the Cult with broad investigative, arrest, and interrogation powers.   The Cult's four branches (Ramus Pietas for theological matters, Ramus Bello for enforcement, Ramus Exculpia for intelligence, and Ramus Leitas for lay membership) quickly became the Emperor's primary tool for maintaining control over the vast Empire.   Under the leadership of the mysterious Exarch Inviso Mortis, appointed by the Emperor in 211 TA and serving continuously to this day, the Cult grew dramatically in power and influence. The Exarch's methods ruling through writs, edicts, and intermediaries while remaining unseen have fundamentally reshaped Imperial society. The nature of the relationship between the Emperor and the Exarch remains one of the great mysteries of the age, with some claiming they are bound by shared knowledge or purpose beyond mere politics.
