Senatus Consultum Ultimum

Era beginning/end

1 TA

The passage of the Senatus Consultum Ultimum marks the cessation of senatorial activities and ceding of the powers of Dictator to Gaius Ignus Acerbo, a preeminent senator and eventual traitor to the fledgling Empire.

After the declaration of war issued by the Draconic Ascendancy, Infernal Alliance, Helvenic Dominion & Coldblood Watch, the Rozani Republic's presence in the southern reaches of Medolania came under relentless onslaught across various Castrae established to ensure control of their continent spanning dominion. City governors defected to rebels, declared their own independence or proved unable to efficiently co-ordinate the necessary response to facilitate rapid troop movements to defeat the rebel armies of the Lesser Races.   As a result of this betrayal from the Lesser Races and the ossification of Republican response, the Senate, reeling from the violence that occurred on the steps of the senate house and clamouring for a unified response, passed near unanimously the Senatus Consultum Ultimum act. Gaius Ignus Acerbo, chosen for his deep knowledge of the Lesser Races, his close relationship with the preeminent general of the day Mallea Tempus Felix and his honourable reputation, assumed the dictatorial powers and took charge of raising five new field armies to put a challenge to the rebels and bring them to heel.   An era defining move, the Senatus Consultum Ultimum had not been used in nearly a thousand years of Republican history; yet with the existential threat of a new, well armed and technologically superior enemy threatening the fabric of their hard-won society, the old men and women of the senate put aside their factionalism to defend the privileges of the Higher Races of the Rozani Compact.
