Rainbow Butterfly
Rainbow Butterflys
Basic Information
Anatomy
They have the average butterfly anatomy, but their scales are prisim like causing light to refract and shine rainbows through them. They are actually more dangerous to touch than the average butterfly because this as their wings can get very hot without affecting the butterfly, but woulc burn another creature.
Genetics and Reproduction
Female butterflies are fought over by males with strange dance like patterns. Females on average normally breed about six times in their life, which is more than other butterflys. They perfer to lay their eggs on theĀ Licuala grandis (or the ruffled fan palm) for their wide leaves.
Growth Rate & Stages
Like many things in Mayvis the living beings adapted to have longer life spans than their non magical counterparts- so while the longest living butterfly in the regular world lived for 13 months (the brimstone butterfly), that is the average life span for these creatures. They spend a month as a catiplier, then two as a cocoon, if they survive they live the rest of their lives as an adult. Cocoons are sought after by some predators though.
Ecology and Habitats
warm, they help with pollanation
Behaviour
The butterflys are known to group together and form close knit patterns that create burning rainbows against predators when possible, but they don't have many options besides that and flee.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Some people use their wings to make spealized glassware, especially when wanting to make enchanted objects particualrly special. Some poor fools think they'd be a good pet or a good show animal but they're really not and they normally end up burning their house down because they don't know how to deal with the dangerous light refraction of their wings.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
There's a few that can be found on the other islands, but most are on Morgen. The second most are on the main land due to smuggling
Average Intelligence
the average intellagence of a butterfly
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They still have the taste receptors on their feet, they still have antenna, and they still have compound eyes. Their eyes are particuarrly resistent to any kind of light damage for reasons that have to be magical, though no one is really sure exactly what it is yet.
Civilization and Culture
Gender Ideals
females perfer larger males
Courtship Ideals
more swoops without falters in the dance
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
some get with other butterfly species but their offspring are always infertile. Some even get with moths- though none have successfully had a living child. This is not stopping random butterflies from trying every couple of years. It fascinates Mayvian scientists to watch the odd saga to say the least.
