The 1st Human-Slizzarí War
This was a war with the power to spark a revolution. This was a war where nobody won. This was a monumental, colossal mistake. This was the 1st Human-Slizzarí war.
For as long as any could remember, the Slizzarí and Humans have been at each others' throats. Though this war took place an age ago, the tremors and shockwaves still rock modern society, plaguing the denizens of Mastu. Lasting a good seventeen years, the 1st cross-species war marked a new era; one, not of peace, but vengeance. You see, it was not the Slizzarí that dealt the first blow. It was actually a small, human scouting party that started it all. Perhaps a poor reaction, perhaps planned, they caught the Slizzarí off guard. At the time, the Slizzarí were less afraid of newcomers, as the newly-met Rahk'ka had come in peace, and they were eager to make new friends. Alas, it was not to be.
The humans attacked again and again, though no one knows for certain if the attacks were coordinated. After the 4th bout, some Slizzarí survivors made it back to their tribe, warning them of the human threat. News quickly spread throughout the Slizzarí lands, and small groups of warriors, the Mankān (man-kaen), were formed. These Mankān fought off the human scouting parties, but they soon came back with their own fighters. This was when the war began in earnest.
At this point, it had been two years since the first blood was drawn, and armies clashed. The humans, still battle-worn from the time they had spent fighting themselves, had strategies that obviously outclassed those of the snake-like race. However, what the humans had in tactics, the Slizzarí made up for in skill. Their speed, smell, and sight were huge assets on the battlefield, making the war a more even match.
A decade and a half passed, and there was still no clear victor. At this point, both races knew the other to be at least somewhat intelligent, and the idea of a truce was passed around the war-torn cities. Eventually, with everyone tired and home-sick, the two races met. Though there was a language divide, both sides knew what they wanted, and two treaties were signed; one in Common, as it is now known, and one in Slizzarak. This signified the end of the war.
What a bloody war that was. Both sides lost copious amounts of soldiers and resources. While not the longest in history, it was a major development in Human-Slizzarí relations, and has not been forgotten. Some, to this day, still have trouble trusting their neighbors.Text 5, on the Human-Slizzarí Wars
Historical Figures
King Cainsford IV - Human
The leader of the humans and bringer of justice, King Cainsford IV brought many Slizzarí to their knees during his rule. Though he was seldom seen on the battlefield, usually cooped up in his castle, discussing stratagems, the times he did make an appearance turned the tide of battle.General Radfish Huckle - Human
The iron-fisted, regimented commander of the human armies, General Huckle was a huge asset to the humans. Strong and intelligent, he led many troops into battle, before his fall in 2315 (BG).Lieutenant Applen Fisk - Human
Though often forgotten by history, Lieutenant Fisk was a game changer in the war. It was he who stole away the mighty amulet of ice, even while it still hung around Salnaví's neck. How he delivered it to Huckle without major injury still remains a mystery, though he died soon after.Sergeant Seckle Fant - Human
A joke of a leader, Sergeant Fant was responsible for many of the humans' reckless decisions. Getting placed under Fant was a death-sentence, and was often used as a threat towards misbehaving soldiers. Surprisingly, Fast survived the war, and died peacefully in 2291 (BG)Zalan Bafírad - Slizzarí
The stiff, yet kind-hearted, leader of the Slizzarí. Though the Slizzarí had no real head at the time, with the tribes preferring to govern themselves, the war pushed them to evolve. At the end of the war, the Slizzarí Council was officially put in place, and made all major relation decisions for the Slizzarí. Since Zalan was at the head of all war-related discussions, and fought bravely during the battles, he was placed in the council, along with his brother.Sitifan Bafírad - Slizzarí
The looser, charismatic brother of Zalan, he too took a place on the council. Thanks to his many exploits during the war, Sitifan helped the Slizzarí win many battles, even defeating multiple Malani-blessed warriors.Rāsala Nifūn - Slizzarí
Arch-mage of the Slizzarí, many humans fell because of Rāsala's magic. One of legend, there have been many tales about her. Some even claim she could transfer magic into certain objects; most of them amulets. The Slizzarí utilized this power to give non-mages magic, turning the tide of the war. That is, until Applen Fisk stole the ice amulet from Salnaví. She never lived it down.Salnaví Matan - Slizzarí
One of the many non-mage lieutenants in the war, Salnaví Matan was clumsy fool. No one knew why Rāsala chose to give her an amulet; perhaps she saw something in Matan; but it was ultimately her regiment's downfall. Seckle Fisk stole the ice amulet from around her very neck, and got away safe and sound. It wasn't much time before her squadron fell, leaving the humans with a magical advantage.Important Battles and Events
The Battle of Merfeather
This was the first battle the Slizzarí fought on human lands, giving them a taste of the other race's culture. Right next to a river, the town of Merfeather is a sort of port city; at least, it was. Though a new city has long since thrived in its place, the original fell into ruins thanks to the war. Both spoken and elemental mages alike lay waste to the fine city, sinking its ships and setting homes alight. Though many villagers evacuated, the ones left; like most of the non-Slizzarí; died at the hands of Sitifan. The Battle of Hanamar
This battle bears the first appearance of the King and his guard. While the war had been going on for at least five years, King Cainsford IV had yet to get physically involved, which he remedied during this battle. The Slizzarí were absolutely crushed, and his victory caused joy throughout the land of men.The Signing of the Treaties
After the war had been waged for seventeen years, both sides were tired and sick. They mutually decided to come to an agreement, and met on Sek 4, 2314 (BG). They struggled to come to a decision all night, thanks to the language divide, but they eventually figured out what they wanted. Sek 5, 2314 (BG) officially marked the end of the war.Date Started
