Hefni

Cousins of the gatrot, this descendant of the tanjeta is also known as a Rad-Squid. They glow an ominous red, violet, or blue. They are creatures of the void and traverse the stars.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hefni are creatures resembling sea cephalopods, having 11 tentacles, two of which possess complex manipulation appendages, eight with a simple but strong gripping action, and one that varries in size and function between males and females.

Genetics and Reproduction

Hefni have not been physically viewed mating, but it is believed they do this in deep space, after which, the female finds a gravity well and places her eggs in geosynchronous orbit around it. She will generally prefer to place their eggs over life-sustaining worlds but have been known to settle with barren rocks.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The hefni seem to enjoy animal foods, but seem to be able to draw off of Hydem Space for some portion of their energy needs. One of these two facts is likely why they examine starships with they can get their tentacles on them, for either the fleshy crew inside or access to the Hydem Drive that draw those weird energies from Hydem Space and into the material universe.

Biological Cycle

The life stages of the Hefni seem to be heavily affected by the conditions of the gravity body they're placed in. If it is a life-sustaining planet, they seem to grow fastest as they have a steady supply of food, if it is a barren rock, it is much slower. There are plenty of occasions that eggs have been found by space goers and have been collected. Specimens that have been fed as much as they want grow rapidly, specimens that aren't still grow, but seem to gain nourishment from Hydem Space, for some reason this is much slower.
