Bakrê

Bakre are a lithoid type lifeform that are most at home in wet or ocean environments. They are long-lived, with some reportedly as old as 450 galactic standard years. Their outer forms are tough, being described as, ‘solid as a rubber rock’. While not agile, they are capable of putting themselves in a favorable position before deft movement becomes needed. Aiding them are a series of smaller lifeforms that evolved to cooperate and cohabitate with the bakre. They are generally less intelligent than their bakre hosts, but they grant a number of abilities that expand the capabilities of the bakre. These symbiotic creatures are known as the Pulhe in ayart.

The bakre have been a space-faring civilization for some 1,500 years and have made inroads in conquering several clusters of the Halque Region. While their rule is not uncontested in any of these clusters, their patience and careful planning have given them very few major defeats in their sectors of space. However, their willingness to wait on favorable conditions has also const them easily won victories, and their enemy’s willingness to take hasty and unthought-out risks has been a major mitigating factor in many engagements.

Physical Description

Bakre are humanoid in shape, but with clubbed legs and long arms. Nearly all of them walk with a hunch, though a few have been observed with an upright posture. They have a humanoid face with two eyes and a mouth, though the space for a nose is concave and has no such olfactory abilities. Their skin is the texture and consistency of rubber while living, with a thin layer of mucus across it. When they die, their outer portions become hard, brittle, and chalky.

Personality

Bakre are a patient breed of sentient creatures. They will not allow themselves to be rushed into anything and are slow to make changes. They are as slow to anger as they are to take action, allowing them to coolly and calculatingly assess a situation and form a response. When they do finally lose their temper, they are like a boulder rolling down a hill, crushing obstacles and impediments along the way. Likewise, when they undertake a project, they will take their time and ensure it is completed as well as the individual knows how.

Alignment

The current iteration of bakre society leaves very little flexibility. They have a rigid caste system with few means of mobility between rungs. They tend towards neutral evil not because of some inborn malice, but because they see very little need to accommodate those who are different.

Relations

Bakre do not suffer fools, and they see many other races and peoples as foolish. They respect the Eldakin simply for being able to resist the rise of their empire’s expansion. Few other species have their grudging respect, being viewed as impulsive and short-sighted. At best, non-bakre companions will find themselves patronized, even politely so. The only meaningful relationships that bakre seem to form is with one another and with their symbiotes.

Legacy

The legacy system I used was a combination of old Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, Pathfinder, Starfinder, and
Racial Points 10

Standard

  • Ability Score Modifiers: Bakrê are durable, steady, and patient, though their very rigid bodies are hard for other more expressive races to gauge their expressions. They gain a +2 Constitution, +4 Wisdom, -2 Charisma. (RP +4)
  • Type: Bakre are humanoid with a silicon subtype.
  • Speed: the base land speed of a Bakrê is 30 ft base land speed and 20 ft. swim speed (RP +1)
  • Size: Medium (RP 0)

Advanced

  • Amphibious: Bakre are as at home in the water as they are in the air and breath both with ease. (RP +2)
  • Natural Armor: Bakrê’s skin resembles stone and is much tougher than other creatures. (RP +1)
  • Symbiot Compatible: Bakre are able to bond with a number of aquatic organisms, gaining certain benefits as long as the bond lasts. The bond takes 8 hours to form and 8 hours to break safely, if forcibly removed it deals 1d4 constitution damage to both the bakre and the symbiont. While bonded to the bakre an aquatic symbiont becomes amphibious. See the bakre Symbiont List. (RP +2)
